Ethan says that I run away too much. When someone scares me, I run, when something looks hard, I run. I don’t like what happens when you stay so I get the hell out of doge every time. Now is no different. I have to get away from the world, from all people. I have to loose myself to nature.
The outdoors has always been my friend. I’m safe out here. I walk under the trees letting small specks of light bounce of my pale skin and shine against my charcoal black hair.
With me there are never choices, like stay, or go, I pretty much let fate decide everything for me. And right now I have this feeling pulling me deeper into the forest. I walk well into the afternoon before revising how far I’ve gone.
I’m completely lost. I have no idea where I am. Normally I would blame fate, but this time it was just my stupidnes walking for this long.
Stupid stupid stupid!
The best idea I get after about three minutes of solid thinking is climbing a tree. I can climb pretty much any tree I see and the trees around me are pretty tall. Maybe from the top of one I could figure out where the nearest bit of civilization is.
I head for an tallish looking tree covered in pine cones. Looks like a good place to start. But when I about half way up I feel something slipping out of my pocket and look down to see my cell phone hit a rock, making a cracking sound that sends Goosebumps up my arms.
Now I blame fate. There better be a pretty good reason I forgot to use my cell phone, a good reason that it slipped out of my pocket. The better be a goddam…..
“Hello, Mia?” I hear a voice like rubber, a woman’s voice. And it’s not any voice it’s the voice of the woman who wants me dead. The woman who is going to kill me.
I’m frozen up in the tree, hoping she won’t see me. but as she moves under the tree to pick up my now broken cell phone, I’m spotted. This isn’t good.
“oh Mia, come down from there. I’m not going to hurt you. I know all about your ability’s, because I have them too. I knew you would be here, so I came to find you” she says this all looking like a nice old woman who couldn’t hurt a fly, but the whole time she talks I’m cussing like a sailor under my breath. She knows my name, and she knows about my dream…wtf!
She continues to talk “I know what it’s like for you, I was your age once, its hard to deal with your ability’s on your own. Well you’re not alone now, I can explain to you what this means.” Her words are like a sharp stick prodding me to come down, but I know I must hold my ground. I can’t let her get me.
I have to say something to her, keep her down there until I can figure out what to do. I decide clearly and strongly tell her I’m fine. Be confident I tell myself as I open my mouth.
“Please…um” I say my voice breaking up “I’m fine” I sounded like a scared little mouse, shit!
“Mia, don’t make me come up there” he voice suddenly gets more angry, more like the one I heard in the basement…before I died, when she wanted to kill me faster.
I slip down to the trunk of the tree ending up eye to eye will an white haired woman who looks fifty and is probably forty. Everything about her is sweet like a cool aunt except for her eyes, her eyes give it away. Its obvious that this is not a kind woman.
I try to take a step back, but she grabs my arm. DAM! That ladies grip is hard! Next thing I know I’m screaming bloody murder and she pulls out a wrench. Lights out baby…maybe coming down to greet my future killer was a bad idea.
When I wake up, I’m not on a cold basement floor,
Thank god!
But I am tied to a chair with a mad woman staring at me. “I just want to take” she says “you don’t understand your ability’s”
I look out the window to see that its night time…my parents will be out looking for me. this is bad. I’m supposed to have another month. Wait….im supposed to have another month! That means that I escape. The only question is how.
“Could you, um, untie me? “I say “since were trying to be friends”
She stops babbling about some cult and smiles “could I untie you what?”
Really, I think. She’s going to kill me and treat me like a five year old, great. “Could you untie me please?”
She stands up and a walk around behind a wall into what I guess is the kitchen, coming out with a knife. And just as my heart is beating so hard it feels like it going to explode she cuts the rope around my wrists. Setting me free.
Now having properly scared me shitless, she continues her rant about a cult i should join…. and when the earth is going to end.
I try my best to tune her out, and look around the room. Were in some kind of trailer shack thingy. The walls are an ugly peeling yell and the TV in the corner looks like it’s from the sixty’s. all of these details don’t really matter much. What I’m really focused on is the door to my right. Its one of those doors that has a regular door, and a screen door behind it. Right now the regular part is open, but the screen part is closed. I bet I could make a run for it, this lady doesn’t look very fast. but then again she didn’t look like she would have a crowbar in her back pocket either.
Suddenly she disappears. I missed her exit to busy thinking about escape. And even though I’m pretty sure that it’s a bad choice, I make a run for it. Bursting through the rotting old screen door and moving as fast as my legs will take me, away from her house.
Out front there is a lake and a have a pretty good idea that the best way to go is on the other side of it. By now its nighttime, but its not dark out. The moon is full and shinning brighter than I’ve ever seen before. I can’t help wondering if this is a good thing or a bad thing. One side I can see where I’m going, on the other, the screaming mad woman behind me can to.
“come back, come back!” she screams “please come back, you don’t understand” her cries almost give me a feeling of pity for her.
Al I know is that I have to keep running. But when I look back I can see that I was horribly wrong, this woman can run! She’s so close now I feel like she could touch me. I’m trying to run faster when I hear a splash behind me. the woman is now is the water screaming bloody murder and swimming toward me.
I almost end up in the water myself when a mysterious figure about my height comes up to me and grabs my arm, then signals for me to follow. Knowing this is probably the person who pushed the woman into the lake I choose to follow.
