I'm usually never the person to be left speechless. I always have an opinion, and have no fear in stating what it is. There have been very few times where I have nothing to say, and at this moment, that seemed to be the case.
The small group of boys huddled behind their leader, watching my disgruntled expression with eager looks, to see what I had to say.
"Neverland? " I scoffed, raising my eyebrows in disbelief. Did this boy really think I was going to fall for this? Did I really look that naive? The name reminded me of something, but I couldn't place what it was.
"Did I stutter?" 'Pan' asked, cocking his head to the side, mocking me.
I jerked my head back and scrunched my nose, annoyed by the cockiness hinting in his tone.
"No, but you do sound highly delusional." I snapped back, slowly rising to my feet so I could distance myself.
The 'Pan' boy raised an eyebrow and stepped back, smirking slightly at the sass I was beginning to show. The grimy boys behind him began to chatter quietly, looking in my direction.
I pursed my lips in a straight line, and looked around. I was in a forest of some sort, and not the kind you would usually go camping in. It was dense, almost eerie like.
Did my family drop me off here? How did I get here? Nothing in this situation made an ounce of sense. I tried not to show that I was uneasy to these new-found boys, but on the inside I knew I was terrified.
I turned my back to the 12 boys behind me, looking to the surroundings that I was blind to earlier. A trail was visible to my back right.
Bingo.
I didn't know where it lead, but it'd be better to go there then to make more small talk with delusional and possibly high, teen and preteen boys. I prayed I would find some sort of civilization that was mentally sane along that path, that could help me.
I turned to face the 'Pan' boy again, and noticed the boys were all huddle around him, murmuring. He spoke very few words, his eyes locked on me like some sort of prey. I took a deep breath, and began to walk to the path I found. I stole a quick glance again to see if they would follow me, but they were halted in the same position. The leader boy had an arm stretched out in front of them, blocking them and holding them back in a way. Our eyes were locked, and I rapidly looked away, back to the direction I was walking.
Good.
"You're just going to let her leave?" I heard a voice behind ask in surprising tone. I paused by the tree closest to the entrance of the path, curious to see how 'Pan' boy would reply.
"Leave? She can't go anywhere. No one leaves Neverland." He stated in a matter-of-fact tone, a dark tinge lacing his words. I could almost hear him shrugging his shoulders in a careless way.
I shook my head in annoyance and stumbled onto the path. What a lunatic.
---
It had been at least two hours of following this path, and it turns out, it was never was a trail in the first place. It lead me to a bunch of weeds against a mountain wall. A dead end.
I groaned in frustration and kicked a rock nearby.
"Where in God's name am I?!" I cry out, throwing my head back and slumping against a nearby oak tree, rubbing my right arm.
My stomach growls in response. I sigh and hold my head in my hands, between my knees. Things could not get any worse.
There had been no roads nearby, or evidence of any either. I haven't seen one house, and to make it worse, I haven't ate since I was in the car with my family. Which isn't very helpful, considering I have no clue how long ago that was.
