It was officially a month since the Starkiller mission, and in celebration, General Organa decided to have a party. There was usually a party going on on the resistance base, but it was more of a "Let's get drunk and talk about our problems to music." than an actual party. This time however, it was an official get-together. It reminded Poe of the bonfires he sometimes came across when he passed through a town. He often wondered on these rare occasions, what it would be like to have a partner to dance with. Of course, not everyone appreciated the art as much as Poe did. While most people saw it is limbs moving and strategic steps, Poe always thought it was more than that. It was movement that wasn't actually moving, it was flowing and changing in the air, it was jumps of joy and graceful twirls and creating your own little world where the rules of motion didn't apply, and all that Poe wanted was to create his own little world and share it. So when General Organa threw a party, Poe let himself hope for a little bit, and in that little bit, he allowed himself to wear a button down instead of a t-shirt. In the little bit he brushed his hair, and in that little bit, he wondered if Finn would still wear his jacket. He walked into the room and the little bit grew. Finn was wearing his jacket. He let his eyes wander, and his mind too. He wondered about Finn's lips, and his hands, and just Finn. Unfortunately, his wandering eyes were forced to stay put when he learned Finn had noticed him. Finn's whole face broke out into a smile, and his thoughts drifted to the thought of seeing that smile every day, and then Poe was smiling too. As Poe approached the table that sat the brown-eyed boy, he saw people twirling around the dance floor. When he reached it, Poe asked one of the most nerve-racking questions anyone could ask. "Would you like to dance?" and astonishingly, Finn's answer was more than enthusiastic. They took each others hands and they danced like nobody had ever seen. They twirled and jumped and laughed as if it was a cheesy romance movie. They were in their own world, just the two of them, and they stared to each other's eyes and moved in sync to the violin music as if they themselves were a part of the instrument. People watched in awe as Poe, the sarcastic mechanic with rough hands and Finn, the ex-stormtrooper who had been drilled from birth to be jagged and strict, moved like the wind. Strong and fierce but peaceful and serene at the same time, it was everywhere and nowhere, it was beautiful. By the end of the night they were sweaty and tired, but they were happier than they had ever been before.
