Harry: That night I faked an emergency from Louis. I had to go talk to Kat. I knocked on her door. "May I ask what you were doing earlier," I said as soon as she opened the door.
"Hi Harry. Nice to see you too," Kat said, perky sarcasm toning her voice. She opened the door further, catching Baby before the ferret ran out the door.
"Do you know all I've been hearing about since your little stunt?" I asked.
"Um, well, my first guess would be how beautiful I am, and my second guess would be the escalating price of a Gucci purse," Kathryn guessed. She still wasn't taking me serious.
"How if I'm having any sort of 'relations' with another woman I should have told her," I said.
"Wow," Kathryn said, stroking Baby before putting her back down onto the ground.
"Yeah," I said, "You realize she thinks there's something I'm not telling her about you."
"So tell her there isn't," Kat shrugged.
"Yeah, because it's ever that simple," I said.
"It isn't?" Kat asked, "Well, my life is a lie."
"Haha," I said, rolling my eyes, "You realize that your little stint is never going to blow over? Never!"
"Dude," Kat said, putting her hands up, "I'm sure she'll get over it when she see's that new outfit you're planning to give her."
"You think that would work?" I asked.
"She seems like the kind of girl who would be distarcted by shiny objects," Kathryn said, frowning.
"So that's what you think of her?" I asked.
"Well, um, she just seems like being an ocean of knowledge she'd be more like a tide pool," Kat said, biting her thumb nail.
"Really? I think you'd be surprised," I said.
"Maybe," she said, shrugging, "But maybe she's exactly how she seems."
"Like I said, you'd be surprised," I said.
"Oh," Kat said. That was all. "Oh."
"So you don't like her," I said.
"Well, it's not my place to judge. But, she seems like the jealous, head cheerleader, only looking for the looks or money of a guy kind of girl," Kat said.
"Ouch," I said. Kat shrugged.
"You like her?" she asked.
"I love her," I said. Kat nodded, not saying a word. There was something in her eyes. Sadness? That's how it seemed, but that couldn't be. Kat didn't get sad. And she was only a friend. She wasn't any more right.
Kathryn: "I love her," Harry said. I nodded. He loved her. I mean, I should have known. But, I felt upset. Like he had just smacked me. Like that perfect little girl was dangling him in front of me. I sat quiet, trying to gain composer.
"Well, that's what matters," I said once I found composer, "Not what I have to say."
"Yeah," Harry said quietly, "I guess."
"Well," I said, "Thanks for stopping by."
"Yeah, I should probably be going," Harry said. I nodded and opened the door for him. He stepped out and I closed the door behind him. I sighed. I only could like him as a friend. I had to when I was a kid. Why was it so hard now?
