Scarlett was taught at an early age to not show emotions. Piney always said "You are a weapon, and weapons don't weep". The young girl lived by that, maybe a little too well.
Scarlett Winston
Gemma came and took the kids to school this morning after Happy had filled her in with the events of last night. The phone ringing caught me off guard as I was scrubbing the kitchen floor. "Hello" I say still trying to get the blood stain off the floor. "Hello is this Miss Winston?" I cringe at that name, Miss Winston is my mother. "Speaking" I sighed. "Miss Winston, this is Elizabeth from Stockton state prison. I'm calling to sadly inform you that your brother Harry Winston was murdered last night" The voice on the other line says. "What" The word barley slipped out of my mouth. My eyes were ringing and my body became numb. "I'm so sorry for your loss Miss Winston, but we will need you to come identify the body. There were no other names on Harry's call list besides yours."
I've been sitting in the same position for hours. Knees pulled up to my chest, my heart shattering into pieces. I had barley even noticed Happy come back into the house. "Hey. What's going on" the tattooed man knelt down in front of me. "Opie was murdered in Stockton last night" I said softly, tears threatening to fall. You are a weapon and weapons don't weep. I could see the shook in his eyes as the words left my mouth. His eyes searched my face for any kind of sign that this was some sick joke I was playing. Hell, I was praying this was some kind of sick joke. "I need to see him" I croaked out. My heart was breaking and it was evident in my voice. "I know" Happy looked up at me and his face was soft. Not a lot of people had seen the Tacoma killer like this, and if it wasn't for the situation I almost would have found it amusing that I was the one getting to see it.
The drive to Stockton prison was one I had done many times before. Each time I would hope and pray that it would be the last time that I had to see my father or brother in an Blue jumpsuit. And as I looked down at the brutalised body that was wearing the Blue jumpsuit, I wanted nothing more than to say it wasn't him. That it wasn't my big brother, they got the wrong guy and Opie would walk around the corner any second now. But it was. It was my brother wearing that stupid Blue jumpsuit. "Its him" I finally spoke, not taking my eyes off him. "Thank you Miss Winston, again we are so sorry for your loss" The coroner spoke. I could feel his eyes burning into the side of my head. "What happened to him?" I ask finally looking up at the older man. "Gang violence ma'am" His eye twitched as he spoke. Liar.
I clutched the black knit beanie to my chest as the prison gates opened. I studied Jax for a second. His face was cold, full of rage. I hadn't seen him this angry since JT died. I could feel the looks of pity from Chibs and Tig. I hated it. I followed the men to their bikes, no one dared to speak a word. Happy jumped out of the drivers side of the van to greet his fellow brothers. "You ready to go home" Hap turned his attention to me. "Home" I scoffed. "It will never be home" I say and get in the van, slamming the door behind me.
Happy was the first one to speak when we pulled into the driveway of Opie's house. "Gemma brought the kids back home, she hasn't told them anything" Great. Selfishly, I hadn't thought about the kids. "How am I supposed to tell them that their father is dead while they are still grieving the loss of their mother?" I asked, nearly choking on my words. "We tell them together" Happy says, reaching over and grabbing my hand. "They are orphans Hap" I wanted to scream, reality finally came crumbling down on me. "They have you baby" I sighed and un clicked my seatbelt, finally stepping out of the car.
Gemma greeted us at the door and pulled me into a hug. "You okay baby?" She asks. "Gotta be" I say lowly. The kids were distracted by something on the tv but turned their attention to me when I entered the living room. "Hey guys, how was school?" I ask trying to sound as normal as possible. "Good" Ellie spoke first. "It was okay I guess" Kenny followed. "That's good, what do you guys want to have for dinner? I was thinking we could do a movie night" Great Scarlett, keep deflecting the situation and just never tell your Niece and Nephew that their dad was murdered. "Aunty Scarlett. Where's daddy? You said he would be home today" Kenny asked. Tears flooded from my eyes as my knees hit the floor, Happy instantly running to my side.
Strike three. Well done Charming, you have officially broken me.
