Every morning as I walk to school I tell myself it's gonna be a good day. Every day I tell myself, "Today is gonna be great! Courtney, you got big things coming! Walk faster! Get to school. Go see the cutie boyfriend you got! Smile!" Everyday I tell myself that. I make myself believe that.
I walk into school, and suddenly my happiness goes away. My boyfriend looks over at me and smiles, but something seems wrong. He embraces me, harder then usual. "Good morning, babe. I gotta...well Tiffany and I have something to tell you..." I don't know whether to be scared or sad or what. We walk over to the stairway, Clara isn't there, which is weird. Clara is one of my best friends, along with Tiffany. "Hey Sam, did you tell her yet?", Tiffany shouts as she runs up to my boyfriend, and hugs him. "I'm glad we don't have to live with this secret anymore!", she turns to me, "I'm sorry, but you're okay right? I mean, I am your bestie, you want me to be happy right?" Then she turns to Sam and kisses him. "I hadn't told her yet, but now you just did." I could feel my heart sinking, it was getting harder to breathe. "I'm sorry, Courtney." He looks genuinely sad when he looks at me. Tiffany looks over, and she does not seem to feel bad at all, "I'm sorry, Courtney, but don't worry, this hasn't been going on that long. It's been like, I don't know, a month. I'm just glad it's finally official!" All I could do was walk away and hope not to cry.
I walked to where my other friends, Brett and Brooke, were standing. They asked me what was wrong, I told them Sam broke up with me in the worst way possible. Brooke looked over at me, "Well, that sucks..um..I'm sorry. Uh, we gotta go. Come on Brett." I watched them walk away, figguring that was the last I would ever see of them. They were more Sam's friends than mine anyway. I just hope I can make it through the day. Because all I want to do is go home, and be alone.
The last bell of the day rang. I never got up so quickly. In seconds I was up, and out the door, on my way home. I looked back, for a second, to watch the kids pile out the door, and run towards the buses. I'm thankful that I can walk home. A few minutes into my walk, my brother catches up with me. "Gosh, can't you just wait for me? Why do you need to get out of that school so fast?", he says between heavy breathing, "What happened?".
What happened? It's a good question, and there is an answer. Something definitely happened.
I'm not gonna make my brother worry about my problems. "I'm fine. So, how was your day?"
"I know something's wrong, I'm not stupid."
"Jordan. Drop it."
"Courtney, what's wrong?"
"Jordan, I'm fine!", my voice started to crack, "I just want to go home!"
I started walking faster. I was in a full sprint. My mind was set on just going home, sleeping, and hoping this was all a dream. Jordan was catching up to me. I started to cross the road...
CRASH
"Oh my gosh. Courtney! Courtney!!"
