Chapter 1- Birthday Present

Today is my 18th birthday and I want to do something to show that I am maturing. I'm thinking about adopting, but I want to get my moms opinion on it.

"Hey Mom" I yell from upstairs "Yes?"she asks from the bottom of the stairwell

"what do you think about me  adopting a kid" I ask going to the middle of the stairs.

My mom sighs before replying "As long as you come back and stay living with me and getting to know the kid your adopting then, Yes"

"Alright mom, I'll call you after I adopt one, oh can you tell Aliyah for me? "

"Yeah, I'll tell her, bye, be safe and call me! "

"Bye"

Hi my name is Kelly, kells, ky or k for short. I live in an orphanage and let's just say I've had a bad, bad life. my family was killed right in front of me. my twin, my twin brother, my other half, killed right beside me when we were escaping ,that day is a day I will never forget. Its also the day I went to the police station and they caught all the men and one told me "when I see you again I'm gonna kill you" I've been scared to get adopted since that day. I don't want to die or hurt my new family

Now when people come I lock my door. Now that the  sad, depressing story is over ,let me tell you more about my self, my name is Kelly Nicole and I'll be 11 in May. I love to play guitar violin, Piano, sports and sing, I live in this run-down orphanage that I hate but hey at least the people here like me... Right?

When I got to the orphanage I asked the lady at the desk if they had any 11-12 year olds she told that they have one I asked if I could see her she replied by motioning me to follow her down the hall.

~Outside kelly's room~

"Now Shawn, her name is kelly and she will have to warm up to you okay?"

"Yes ma'am" I send her a smile and knock on Kelly's door. I slowly opened the door and called out her name "Kelly?"

"Get out!" she yells at me and throws a plant at the door.

"Hey I'm not going to hurt you, okay? My name is Shawn and I want to adopt you" I send her a smile, but she just shakes her head. "Why me why can't you adopt another kid and not me"

"Because kelly I know your story and I want adopt you. If they find out what orphanage you are at, they might try to get you. I wanna take you in as my kid because I know your probably scared, but, I'll take care of you and you will be my birthday present to me today? So, what do you say kelly"

"Yeah" she says smiling and running to give me a hug. "Really" I say smiling like I just win a million bucks. "Yup"

"Well, your new name is Kelly Nicole Mendes" she thought about it for a second, then replied "I like that name"

"You do" I ask making sure she is comfortable with it. "Yeah"

"Okay, well get packed and I'll meet you downstairs after I sign the papers okay?" I tell her heading out of the room. She runs over and gives me one last hug "Yeah see you down there"

After I pack I go down to see Shawn waiting on me
"You ready to go?" I smile and shake my head "Yeah, Hey Shawn?"
