I know I don't have a good track record with finishing my works but I hope to chance that with this book as I have been meaning to write something like this for a while. Before I start I feel like I should mention the fact that my brother is blind in one eye and has decreasing vision in his other eye, so the idea of losing my sight is something that I have been aware of for most of my life.
Preface
Looking around at the other contestants that had brought their families with them for support I couldn't help but wonder at what i had gotten myself into. I had never been brave and even though something as simple as entering a competition doesn't seem like a brave thing to do, it get's a hell of a lot harder if said completion is going to be broadcast all over the country. With that in mind I took a deep breath and waited for my number to be called. This was it. There was no going back now.
"Number 489" called Simon Cowel from his seat in front of the stage. I looked down at the number on my t-shirt, yep that was me.
As I made my way to the centre of the of the stage where the x lay I could feel my hands start to shake. I had never been in front of a crowd this big to preform and i knew how much this opportunity could change my life.
Looking up from the stage the first thing I noticed was the size of the crowd. It was enormous! I couldn't even distinguish most of the people from one another. this was crazy!
The next thing that caught my attention was the judges. Simon was in his usual plain t-shirt, had it been anyone I would have rolled my eyes, but right now I was too nervous. With L.A Reid sitting just down from him in his harp suit you'd think Simon would find himself in competition for yyou're attention but the world renowned British producer seems to demand you attention without even trying.
In between the two men sat Demi and Britney. They were shuffling through some papers that were in front of them. What were they looking for? I didn't have to give much more then my name when signing in.
This was it. The X Factor.
"H..hi." I stumbled over the words as I spoke into the microphone. Great my first words to the people I wanted to mentor me and I messed them up!
"Hello! What's your name and how old are you?" Demi said looking up from the papers. Her voice was relaxed and it calmed me considerably
"Lucas and I'm 17" I replied, great full that my voice was stronger now
"And what will you be singing today?" She asked
"Sing by my chemical romance" I answered her. Chase and Aaron had helped me pick the song. Now I just hoped we'd made the right choice.
"Okay, start when you want" Brittany Spears spoke for the first time.
I listened as the short intro played, but before i had a chance to start singing I was interrupted.
A loud rumbling followed by the screams of all the people in the crowd. Before I could fully process what was going on large pieces of the building started falling from walls and ceiling.
I ran from where i was to try and find somewhere safe to hide. Before I could make it far I felt a hard bang on my head and everything went black. Little did I know that the terrified faces of the people running wildly around me would be my last sight.

I ran as fast as I could down the field, dodging and tackling everyone who got in my path. I held the ball tightly in my hand as I sprang forward, skidding across the freshly painted white line. I did it. I scored the winning touch down. The feeling was surreal as I gazed at the crowd that was now going crazy.Catching a glimpse of my dads proud face and my moms delight I smiled, a genuine smile, something I hadn't done in a while. In the next second I found myself surrounded by my team mates and right beside me was my best friend Chase. He knew how much this meant to me as we both knew that this wasn't were my real talent lay. He opened his mouth to tell me something but I couldn't hear it. The screams from the crowd seemed to be fading away.
I awoke to the darkness that had consumed me every day since I woke up in the hospital. Sighing I got out of bed to start another pointless day of waiting for night to come again so that i could go back to my dreams and my only chance to see again, even though they would never come true.
Hope you like it. Sorry if the football references are wrong, I don't know much about the game. I know it's short but i hope to make the chapters longer as I continue.
Video on the side is what he was going to sing.
The rest of the book will most likely be written in Dakota's pov.
