Chapter Seven – “How do you even shower?”

The sound of birds in the trees woke Aaron up. He hadn’t even realized that he’d fallen asleep. He blinked several times to get the sleep and grogginess out of his eyes, frowning when his gaze was met with a sea of white. It took him a second to realize that those were petals currently obscuring his view of the sky and trees. It took him another second to realize that he was lying on his back on something incredibly soft, a warm and soft body currently lying half on top of him and slightly pressed to him from head to toe, legs tangled intimately.

He shifted, turning on his side to glance down at said body, in the process tangling their legs even further and his movement woke Jamie up and she blinked blearily up at him.

Aaron held his breath because their faces were mere inches apart. And like bees to honey, his gaze was instantly, helplessly drawn to her lips. For a second, he was actually angry that he could see right through her to the bright yellow grass that they were lying on and he wondered if her lips – full and lush – were pale or bubble-gum pink or if they were strawberry red. He was suddenly also hyper aware of the fact that his arms were wrapped tightly around her while hers were curled and pressed tightly against his chest, their legs a tangled mess.

They both seemed to realize the intimate position and their eyes widened, resulting in them moving at the same time which then resulted in their foreheads smacking together, making them both gasp with pain, struggling to get untangled as Aaron turned red with a furious blush and Jamie’s blue cheeks turned opaque.

When they were finally separated, they took note that they were currently standing inside a flower bed and like the flower knew they were awake, the petals slowly came open with a sigh, revealing the beautiful morning.

The Auries must go to sleep during the day because now the field of white flowers were all closed into their beautiful white buds with pink tips, enclosing the little creatures inside.

Aaron glanced at Jamie at the same time that she glanced at him and they both blushed furiously, tearing their eyes away quickly. They both got off the flower, landing on the mossy forest floor with silent thuds. The morning was beautiful; everything seemed to sparkle as the morning dew reflected the light from the sun rays.

“Right,” Jamie said awkwardly, unable to meet Aaron’s gaze, her cheeks still dark with a blush, “we should probably get moving.”

She was about to head towards the direction of the sun as the Aurie had instructed her to last night when she noticed one of the petals of the flower they’d just exited was different from the rest. First off, it wasn’t pure white like the rest, it was a papery brown and had script and drawing on it, done in the most intricate hand. Frowning, she reached for the petal – which happened to be as big as her dining table back home – and just as her fingers brushed against the surface, the petal shook off its hold with a sigh, floating to the floor and leaving sparkly brown dust in its wake.

The dust formed a sentence, thought this might be more helpful than the sun, before slowly fading away before it hit floor.

Jamie blinked in dazed confusion and picked up the petal, twisting it around until the script and drawings made some sort of sense.

“Oh, it’s a map,” she whispered and the dust sentence suddenly made sense.

The ink the drawings, markings and script where done in was a beautiful golden brown, making the petal look like some old, important parchment or something and the initial excitement Jamie had felt before going to get Aaron, back when she’d been innocent and naïve filled her up and she inhaled deeply. On the map was a big red ‘X’ which was right on top of a drawing of an open flower – much like the flower they’d just exited.
