Remember when we were kids?
We would run 'round the yard
Laughing and having fun
Singing all the Disney songs.
Remember when we were kids?
Imagination covering everything we did,
From the things we colored and drew
To the tennis balls we threw
Pretending they were rockets.
Remember when money was an idea that didn't rule us?
We'd imagine being rich and famous
But we never truly wanted it
We were happy.
Remember when your innocence diminished?
Santa became a fraud, a myth
Peter Pan would never take you away
To Neverland
Your toys stopped being your best friends
And became worthless instead.
Remember when you fell asleep on the couch and woke up in your bed?
You thought that you could teleport
Until you woke up on the couch.
Remember when you took baths all the time?
Showers were no fun.
Until you got tired of being a mermaid
And only bathed to be clean.
Remember getting your first phone?
Your first introduction to the technology
That would soon control your life
Become almost as important as the air you breathe.
Remember when you got in the first real fight with your friend?
You stayed awake all night
Wondering if you'd ever make up
Maybe crying some.
Remember when you got your first date?
Getting all dolled up.
Almost bursting from nervous excitement
Thinking you'd found your Prince Charming.
Remember your first break up?
Crying and ruining your make up.
Thinking the world would surely end
And being disappointed when you wake up.
Remember when you had your first kiss?
When he dropped you off outside your door.
The awe and excitement
The hoping for more
Remember when you got so depressed
You wanted to cry and scream
Maybe wanted to end your life
Feeling like a drama queen
As you picked up the knife
And severed your innocence at the seams
Remember when people tried
To influence you and your life?
Maybe you let them
Maybe not
Remember when you wished for your innocence's return?
When you wanted to dream and pretend once more?
When you could wish for nothing more
Than to build a pillow fort?
Than to blow bubbles into the breeze?
Than to play, just you and me?
Maybe you don't remember any of this.
Maybe you haven't had your first kiss.
Maybe you forgot the things that we did.
Maybe you hate me now, ever since that fight in grade school.
Maybe you figure we're okay now, we're cool.
Maybe you never met me before.
Probably not.
But I'm asking you-
No begging you-
Never let your childhood go
Never forget all those memories
Never forget you, and me.
Never forget your tragedies
Never forget childhood melodies
Never forget the fights
The make ups
Never forget the sleepless nights
Caused by stress or excitement or screw ups.
Please
Remember
If you forget, you're forgetting little
Bits
And
Pieces
Of yourself.
Remember that picture you kept on your shelf.
Remember those pajamas you wore all the time.
Remember that kids' show always on your mind.
Remember your childhood pet that died
Remember how you curled up and cried
And cried.
Remember the book you read
And rereading again.
And of course
Remember your friend
That one person you did everything with
What ever happened to them?
.
.
.
Remember.
