I sighed as my head began to hurt. Trying to keep up with all of this new and strange information was beginning to seem impossible.

"I don't like where this is going." My hands rubbed over my face as I groaned. It was a sad attempt at keeping me rational.

Suddenly, everything about Chase's demeanor changed. "Be quiet." He snapped.

I frowned as I recoiled. "What? Why?" The car accelerated. "What are you doing?! You're going over the speed-"

I was so focused on the needle pointing to the speed of the car that by the time I realized the car was swerving it was too late. Chase slammed onto the breaks and made a sharp turn down another road. I was thrown against the window and knocked my head against the glass.

"For someone who's so concerned about road safety you should be wearing a seat-belt, and then that wouldn't happen."

"Why did you do that?!" I wanted to come across as threatening, but it sounded like a wail. I rubbed my head and pouted, that was a cheap shot.

"Because we're being tailed, lucky for us I'm actually focused on keeping us alive rather than complaining about how tragic life is." Chase's jaw was locked as he checked the mirror; I followed his gaze and checked my own mirror. Sure enough, far back into the distance was another pair of headlights.

"Why didn't you tell me?!" I cried exasperatedly.

He was the one in charge here; he should be keeping me updated on what's going on. We'd barely just made it out from the forest and now someone was after us again?! It seemed like this night would never be over and I would never get the chance to actually go to sleep.

"You have eyes, use them." He was getting tenser by the second. After glimpsing up at the rear-view mirror again, he grabbed the gear stick and roughly switched into another gear.

"How did they catch up to us so quickly?" I gasped as the car behind us pulled closer.

"Alpha." Chase gritted his teeth. "Hold on."

My nails dug into the seat of the car as the tires screeched and Chase hit the brakes. He wrenched the steering wheel to the right and we veered across the road. We hadn't even skidded to a halt before the tires were squealing again and the car was thrown forward. Chase had made the car turn into the other lane.

"Are you crazy?! We're going to drive towards them!" I screamed in hysteria as we bolted back down the road.

Chase began muttering under his breath. "Why didn't I prepare for something like this?" He glanced at the backseat. "Give me that gun."

"You can't shoot and drive!" I shouted.

The car was fast approaching in the neighbouring lane. I was closest to the car anyway; Chase would need to shoot out of the passenger side window to get a good shot.

There was a silent moment between us as the other car zoomed past. The windows were tinted so it was impossible to see into the car. The large expanse of silence was deafening. Our eyes met at the rear-view mirror as the car started skidding across the road. It performed the exact same turn that Chase did.

"Damn it, Skylar, I said give me the gun!" Chase growled as he pressed two buttons near the gear stick. Both of our windows wound down and the night wind rushed into the car causing my bright fire hair to whip in every direction. He had been gruff with me before, but he hadn't ever shouted at me like that.

I swallowed my fear and looked to the backseat; all I could think about was the approaching car directly behind us. The gun was lying on the backseat still dimly glowing blue, as I moved to grab it headlights blinded me and the back of the car was crashed into. Chase struggled to keep control of the car as I was disorientated.
