The stone asphalt felt exceedingly rough against my belly and chin. I hadn't expected that tumble to hurt so much. Normally I'm able to catch myself, but Stormy Weather's blast of cold air desensitized my feline instincts.
I frowned deeply as the sound of footsteps encroached from behind me.
"I thought cats always landed on their feet."
A strong hand wrapped around mine and soon I was standing. Her sweet feminine voice made me smirk as per usual.
"Why thanks, My Ladybug." I flirted, brushing off my black leather catsuit. "But I had it covered."
A soft chuckle leapt from her throat. She was as beautiful as always. Maybe one respectful kiss wouldn't hurt?
I planted a small one on the back of her black and red skin-tight suit. She shied away like always before pushing my nose away with her finger. The unexpected pressure made me wince and rub my nose.
"No time for your childish charm Cat Noir." She shrugged. "You're welcome."
There was a sudden crackle and pop of electricity that caught our attention.
White high-heeled boots, an awkward purple dress, and gravity defying hair met my eyes first. Next was the akumatized villain's annoying voice.
"We should be expecting lightning storms, like...right now!" Stormy Weather squealed.
She pointed a disturbing looking parasol upwards. A zap of electricity shot from the end into the sky, where it made the once fluffy clouds into foreboding gloom.
A bolt of purple energy crackled centimeters from my upturned nose. I tried to move but was a second too late. Luckily...my Ladybug is quick. She grabbed me and flung us both out of the way with her surprising strength.
We tumbled and rolled across the pavement for a few seconds before stopping. I blinked sheepishly when the world came to a standstill. Pinned underneath me was Ladybug. I gave her an embarrassed grin.
My partner deadpanned and tilted my head to the side. The pig-tailed brute floated ever-so-daintily in the air. She was going to pay for hurting my Lady!
"Looks like you've just won yourself a cat fight!" I hissed. Rage seemed to make my legs sprint faster in the she-devil's direction.
"Black ice!" She squawked once more. This time she pointed her umbrella towards my feet and summoned sleet beneath my steel toed boots. I tried to regain my balance and succeed.
Sadly, Stormy Weather summoned another icy gust of wind. It was so strong that cars, me, and Ladybug were thrown into the air. If my Lady hadn't grabbed me by the belt and tethered us both to a nearby lamp post, we would've been blown half-way across Paris!
The freezing blast abruptly stopped and we fell to the ground. I already could feel bruises forming on my head. My partner gave a cute groan of pain as well. We laid there for a few more seconds before car alarms ruined the peace.
She was getting away, and I couldn't let that happen.
"A little Cat Noir will take the wind out of her sails!" I vented. Once again I tried to go after her but a firm tugging on my belt made me rethink the idea.
"Woah! Kitty, kitty, kitty..." Ladybug sighed while shaking her head."You better think before you leap."
"You gotta plan?" I asked.
"Just follow my lead." She replied.
She didn't have to tell me twice! Tag-team it is.
Sometimes I'm so glad to have my miraculous. It makes running sideways on walls easier than you'd think.
The two of us lunged at the same time. My baton and her yo-yo were spinning dangerously in the air. For a brief moment I felt invincible, but Stormy wasn't having any of it.
"Not you again!"
She unleashed another frigid flurry right in our faces. Not only did it hurt, but we were tossed up and back multiple stories. Our screams covered clanking car metal as gravity seemed to pull us down.
The Lady and I both landed first in a surprisingly graceful way. I thought we were safe but a car crashed down in front of me. It skid towards me but I was able to dodge it and cartwheel out of the way.
Two more cars crashed down next to me...but I knew something was wrong. On a regular day, I would've dashed away in such an agile manner. Today my bad luck was being extraordinarily bad. I tried to cover my head in vain.
Steel and glass came crashing down on me while my Lady looked on in horror.
* * * *
I couldn't breathe.
I couldn't see.
I couldn't feel my lower half.
Every part of my brain screamed to run while dizzying pain blurred my senses.
"Cat Noir?!" My Ladybug cried hysterically. If it weren't for her voice I wouldn't have known she was there. I still couldn't move or see. Perhaps my body was still in shock? Maybe that's why I wasn't registering too much pain?
The weight was suddenly lifted off of me. I wanted say thanks or something but could only manage a pained groan.
"K-kitty..." She hiccuped again. I felt fingers running through my unkempt mane of blonde hair. "I'm s-sorry."
"This is a cat-astrophe." I breathed out. My throat made an ugly gurgling noise as I spoke. The joke was to make her feel better but only succeeded in making her cry harder. My Lady cradled me in her arms so I could see her masked face once more.
So many emotions were sparking my subconscious...
"You're an idiot." She sniffed. "But it's my fault this happened to you. If I had just been quicker..."
"No." I smiled softly in return. "You did great, really. Better than me."
Shock and anguish flashed on her face before she held me tighter. Quite frankly I never thought Ladybug would ever want to touch me (willingly at least ).
"How can you say something like that, Cat? You're awesome to be around."
I silently waited for her to stop gushing about me to me. No matter what she said, I still knew she was way out of my league. Eventually I caught her attention.
I only had one chance to say this.
I had to get it right.
"My Ladybug...je t'aime."
The world slowly dimmed but I could still hear her voice in the dark.
"I love you too, Cat Noir."
Have I ever told you that cats hate stormy weather?
