Sam stretched out, taking a couple of steps back she looked at her mural with critical eye. A smile spread on her face. She felt the baby kick inside her. Patting her belly gently she sat on a chair. "All I have to do is clean up and move the furniture in and we'll be ready for you." Her hand rubbed her belly, Sam couldn't believe how her belly had stretched so far out, Bryan spent the evenings feeling the baby inside kicking, sometimes she felt out of breath, it seemed to kick in all directions.
Taking the dirty smock off herself she called for Ann.
"What do you think?"
"Samantha, it's beautiful! It looks like if we were standing out by the river." Ann hugged Sam proud of her child. Ann pressed her hand to Sam's belly and frowned feeling it so low, she still had a couple of months to go before she was due. "Sam you have to rest now, you've been working to hard these weeks and I worry about the baby."
Sam placed her hand on Ann's arm squeezing gently as she smiled. "You always worry too much Ann."
Cecile walked in and stared at the wall. It looked like the river near their house. You felt as if you were standing on the edge. "Sam you've outdone yourself! This is beyond beautiful!" Cecile got closer to inspect the work.
"Careful Cecile, some of it is still fresh, not bad for five months of work huh?" Sam beamed, knowing it had come out incredibly well, she sighed.
"Has Bryan seen this?" Cecile asked still amazed at the real life quality of the whole thing.
"No, I wanted to get all the furniture set so he could see it complete, will you help us set it up? I'd love to have it before lunch."
"Of course I'll help, let's get to it!" Cecile said rolling up her sleeves.
Two hours later the room finally looked like a nursery. Sam heard Bryan calling her.
"Up here. We have a surprise for you."
Bryan ran up the stairs and saw all three women waiting for him at the door.
"What is it?" Bryan asked.
"We are finished with the nursery." Sam's smile widening feeling proud of having accomplished this.
"Can I see?" Bryan's eyebrows shot up since none of them seem to want to let him through.
"Oh yes!" Sam laughed getting out of his way.
Bryan walked in and stopped. He was standing next to a river edge, the trees, water, grass, was all there. Sun rays came down casting shadows on the stones and some flowers had bloomed. He looked around, a crib was set up, a rocking chair, some small furniture he imagined held clothing. There was a wooden horse, some wooden blocks placed with care and small toys placed on top of a table. A smaller bed stood to one side with a table next to it. Bryan was speechless it was so beautiful! He turned to look at his wife, big with their child. She looked lovely and he walked toward her opening his arms to hug her. Sam laughed and turned sideways so he could place his arms around her.
"Do you like it?" Her face lifted searching for his approval.
God she was such a child! Sam wanted his approval when there couldn't be any doubt he had never seen anything so beautiful in his life.
"It's beyond words Sam, I have never seen anything so beautiful! I'm sure our son or daughter will love this room you have so lovingly created for them." Bryan kissed her mouth gently, wanting so much to hold her and rock her in his arms. "Of course with the help of the future grandmother and Ann." He smiled toward the older women who stood side by side tears of happiness down their eyes.
