[Legolas POV]
My father hadn't taken it well and that's saying it nicely. He had just about blown up like a volcano. And in true volcano fashion, there was a lot of fire. But this fire was in the form of words. We exchanged a lot of fire. He ordered me to break off the engagement and our friendship. Of course, I said no and the argument continued. I ended up just leaving. I didn't want to go back to Tauriel yet because she'd e sure to notice that I was upset and I didn't want her to know. So I went to the garden and walked around for a while to cool off.
When I felt I had calmed down enough, I walked back to Tauriel's room. As I entered the room, a knife embedded itself into the wall next to my head. I yelped and scanned the room for the threat. There was nothing except an elleth doubled over with laughter on the bed.
"Tauriel?"
"You.... should have.... seen....you face!" she gasped.
"How'd you get your knives?" I asked. "They were at the other end of the room. You promised you wouldn't get out of bed."
She shrugged. "And I didn't."
"Then how'd you get them?"
She held up her legs. "I pushed the bed over."
"What? You would have had to get off the bed to do it."
"Nope. I stayed on the bed and just used my legs to push it over."
I rolled my eyes. "And you think that's what I had in mind when I said 'stay in bed'?"
She shrugged again. "You said stay in bed, so I stayed in bed."
I ran my fingers through my hair. "Tauriel. You know exactly what I meant."
Pulling her knives out of the piece of wood on the stone wall, I handed them back to her.
"Sorry," she mumbled as I sat on the bed next to her. "It's just that you've had me cooped up in here for almost a week now. I'm starting to go crazy."
I turned my head to look at her. "I just want to make sure you heal properly. I wouldn't forgive myself if--," I took a deep breath, "if you didn't."
She looked me in the eyes. "I know, Legolas. I'm sorry." She leaned up and kissed my cheek.
"No, it's fine. I shouldn't have made you stay here this long. You can get up tomorrow."
"Thanks." She hugged me and I pulled her closer.
We sat like that for a while, then Tauriel said, "Legolas?"
"Hmm," I answered.
"What's wrong?"
So she had noticed after all. "Nothing."
"I know you're lying. If nothing was wrong you would have said 'what do you mean' or something like that."
"Tauriel, nothing's wrong."
She raised an eyebrow. "I'll believe that when cows fall from the sky. Now, what's wrong?"
I just looked at her. "I talked to my father," I finally said.
"Poor Legolas." She kissed my cheek again.
"It wasn't that bad."
"Your face says otherwise. Tell me what happened."
I sighed. "He ordered me to break off our engagement. I said no."
"I bet that went over well."
"Yeah. He just about exploded. Tauriel, if we go through with this it's going to be hard. Very hard. We might even have to leave Mirkwood. I understand if you want to back out before it's too la--." She stopped my words with a kiss.
