FEBRUARY 25TH
PENT HOUSE
7:10 AM
"How is it that you don't know how to fix your bow tie?" I said as I tied a knot under Q's chin. The weather was warming up a bit as I could see the annoying pigeons perching on my windows. It was the last week in February and we were on our way to an official funeral for the people who died when we fought Krane. There had been a long search party for all the bodies but still they could only find some. I'm sure the radioactivity in the water must have disintegrated their bodies. I sighed and threw an end of the bow tie over on Q's neck.
"Are you sad?" I heard him whisper while twirling his index finger between my black curls.
"A little bit upset," I said nodding. Jane and James were eating popcorn on my couch watching Pretty Little Liars. Jane had gone through the trouble to get me coffee at 6:30 in the morning even on my day off.
"It's all for the best," Q said, lifted my chin and gave me a kiss.
"You guys are so cute," Jane said over the sofa.
"I thought we were cute?" James said holding her hand as she flashed him a smile. I grabbed a tissue from the tissue box that was on the centre piece from the forced 'girls night' I had with Trisha and some other girls in the apartment. I don't think I had lost that much brain cells at a go before.
"You have lipstick all over your face," I said laughing and handed him a tissue.
"How about I don't care," he said pushing it away and puckered up.
"How about you look like an idiot," I said and wiped his mouth.
"We ready?" Q said straightening up as I put the last touches on his bow tie.
"He looks so good."
"He's mine," I snapped at Jenette as Q laughed.
James and Jane walked out of my penthouse with Q as I locked the door behind me. I didn't feel the need to rush out of the apartment for some strange reason. We got outside to the car park as Q's latest obsession laid in front of us. I climbed into the passenger seat as James and Jane got comfortable at the back.
Throughout the car ride, I just ruminated over what had happened since I found out I was half machine. I finally put all the trances together and figured out what had happened with my family. My parents were poor and had sold me to the government for Dr Ronald's (the guy who created the chip) experiment. They thought the chip transfer was a failure so they gave me back to my parents. My father being the drunkard of the family wasted it on a mortgage and booze and we were bankrupt. They gave me up for adoption because they couldn't take care of me anymore. Because the chip was installed, Jenette could remember what I couldn't. Q squeezed my hand and turned right into another street. Since November, Walter had begged the government to give him time to research on how to duplicate these genes and separate them but I suggested that I didn't want other children hurt or experimented on so they had to make them fully machines which of course is less fun but they agreed. Walter is in England, in his lair researching as we speak. I Skype with him at least once every week. It's hard knowing most of your best friends died at the same time. The lair is literally empty. Only a few survived the radiation.
I had also gone on an expedition to find my family anyway. I had found out my parents had died in a car accident because my dad was drunk but I had a younger brother. We had currently located him in Arizona and I was flying there next week to check things out. I had never had siblings but it sure would be nice to have a 17 year old of my blood to talk to in my penthouse and I wanted him to go to college 'cause I never had the chance to do so.
The government had convinced the public that there was nothing like a secret service in New York and that was too fictitious. I was also proclaimed to have been misjudged for someone else. I couldn't even keep up with the lie but we could always count on the citizens to be gullible enough. Everyone had moved on to the next thing which was currently, anticipating a royal English baby. God save their queen. They didn't find Krane's body in the ship but we figured since Walter and I had survived the radiation, he might have survived it too. We were still uncertain about him.
Q pulled up as we all came down walking forward to where everyone was standing. Since we could not identify the bodies, we had to a mass burial for most of them. I saw M in a black suit as he turned around and gave me a lazy smile before he looked forward. We approached the 6 feet hole that was dug as they lowered the coffin into the ground. People went in turn to make speeches about the agents that were buried and rifles were shot. I stooped down picking up sand from the ground and sprinkled it on the coffin inside the hole. Jane did the same already crying as James petted her hair. I stood back watching as everyone bid a quick goodbye and retreated to their homes. Q held my hand and rubbed on my knuckles.
"It's all for the best, Lana," He was the only one allowed to call me that.
"I know," I said nodding as we backed out to his car.
A/N: That's the end :')
