Dave Chp. 5

     Jade is cute. I thought she'd just be a dork like John, but the way she seems to be excited by everything, it's adorable. Now I'm standing with her, alone.

I think about how we awkwardly reached out for the paper on the ground, at the same time. I of course had to freak out and pull my hand back, no it could've been a romantic hand touch, like in fanfiction or something.

"Why do you wear those shades?" Jade suddenly asks.

"I, uh, it's good to protect your eyes from the sun." I reply lamely.

"I feel like that's not the only reason, why do you wear them inside?"

"They look cool." I inwardly cringe, they 'look cool?'

"True, they do make you look pretty cool!" Jade says happily.

"Yeah." Yeah? I just said yeah?

"You also seem to really like apple juice." Jade says, observing my drink from lunch.

"Yeah, it's the best."

There's more awkward silence between us, I feel like I should somehow break it. Maybe ask about one of her interests? What have you noticed about her Dave? She's cute.

"Wanna-hang-after-school-tomorrow?" The words tumble out if my mouth, I didn't want to say that! Did I say the wrong thing, oh no!

"Yeah! We should all get together!" Jade smiles warmly, and I give my cool kid smile back. It expressionless yet still is a smile. It's a cool smile, which is totally not romantic or warm.

"And... Uh... Maybe, sometime, I-uh, you-we could hang out. Just us." I'm an idiot "so we can get to know each other, ya know?"

It feels like an eternity before she answers, although it's only a couple seconds. I curse myself every second I'm between. Why are you so awkward? Be cool Dave! Be smooth.

"Sure! How about Thursday? We can meet up after school then we can go to some cool place for coffee, or anything you'd like!" Jade says excitedly. She said yes?

"Oh, sounds good, yeah, we can meet at your locker." I say, still slightly confused.

"Ok, my locker is 130!" Jade exclaims.

"Ok guys, let's go!" We both turn and see John walking towards us , with a goofy grin.
