This is an extra long chapter for you guys! I hope you all enjoy (:
Harry
"I can't believe you convinced me to come with you," Sam said. He sat adjacently from me in the passengers seat, his seat belt off, and his window rolled down to allow the whipping breeze to enter the expensive vehicle.
It has been a solid three hours of pointless comments that never sunk completely into my brain. I proceeded to drive down the heavily paved road, passing dark valleys of grass and occasional waterfalls at each corner. Ever since Sam and I departed from the thick walls of Brixton and entered the secluded area, it had been nothing but showy scenery.
Each cobblestoned house that we drove past was aligned with several pieces of flourished gardens along with multiple vines of greenery that hung against the exterior of the house. Winery ranches were held along the sides of the road, with berries and sparks of rich colors coming to life as a settling blur through the car window. Sam hardly appreciated the view like I silently did, instead he decided the exhausting option was to express his sourness towards my parents.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, diverting my vision momentarily from the road to survey his disgruntled features. Evidently he looked uncomfortable, with his far too tight dress shirt, and the borrowed blazer that he ridded out of my closet. "You love visiting my parents." Even from the hazy corner of my eye, I could tell that he was perplexed by my comment.
The shrubbery was endless, and reddened leaves decorated the branches of the trees as we drove past them. Neighborhoods in this area of Denver were often looked at as dystopian, where people were at a solid one mile radius from their closest neighbor. Privacy was a ginormous glimmer of greed, as the wealthy people rented these brick houses to escape the actual world of reality.
My parents were prideful members of the subdivision; as well as any other person who had the privilege — and the money, to live in such an expensive home. To prove this obvious theory of unsettling riches, my parents rented a house as far away from the closest human species as possible. Even though it was quite convenient for the both of them to hire transportation whenever needed, it became a three and a half hour hassle from Brixton, in a car, with Sam — who complained about every detail.
"I believe I mentioned that I love visiting the food. I hate your parents, and your parents hate me." That wasn't a complete lie. There was no doubt in my mind that Sam despised my parents, and it wasn't a fib that my parents weren't fond of Sam as well. But it wasn't honestly all that true and personal, mostly because my parents hated the majority of the earth, and Sam was a genuine part of the mixture. "If they don't have food I'll run back to campus."
Instead of comforting his hunger, I shook my head at his exaggeration. "That's a clear lie. You hate any form of exercise."
My mind wandered to the unknown of what I would possibly be doing back at the campus. Which automatically crossed as visiting parties from time to time with Sam at my hip; and even though it never failed to please Sam that free liquor and flamboyant girls were well present, I have come to the theorem that every party is relatively the same. Every theme, every host, every fraternity house all has the same end result. The conclusive consequences that leave the guests with a headache the next day, and missing the morning classes that they payed for. Without certain things in moderation, everything fades so very fast.
"I hate your parents more."
Sam continued to pester me about the dreadful years in the past where my parents lectured him to no ends. I pretended to listen, something that I had become considerably great at from practice. I managed to drain the dulling twang to his voice and shove it beneath the thick layer of skin on my ears.
