Chapter Three

"Nothing..I didn't mean to say because" Kate lied. 

"Um..Are you sure it sounded like you were going to say something" Mrs. Jenkinson said. 

Before Kate could say anything back there was a loud pound on the door, it's her mother. 

"Go hide before she sees you!" Mrs. Jenkinson said as she was walking to the door to answer it. 

Before she could tell her to come in she barges through tthe door screaming. 

"Where is she! I know she's here!" Kates mother scream. She can tell that she is drunker than she was before. 

"No she's not here. What are you talking about? Did Kate run away?" Mrs. Jenkinson says in the fakes voice ever. 

"Haha very funny. Now where is she! I know she ca-" She says and gets cut off when Kate come out to where that are standing. 

"See I told you she was here. Now come with me Kate we are going home. Now!" Her mother says reaching for Kates arm but Kate pulls away. 

"I'm not going with you. Do you think I'm stupid? I know what you are going to do to me if I go home with you." Kate says. Her mother shoots her a glare. 

"And what do you think it is that I am going to do to you?" Her mother says with a creepy smile on her face. 

"I don't want to talk about this now mom. This is not a conversation to have infront of people." Kate say hesitantly. 

"Then come home and we can talk about it there." Her mother says. Waving her hand to the door. 

Before Kate can tell her mother she is not going with her Luke walks down  the stairs. When he sees Kate and her mother he looks nervous. 

"Uh..Hey?" Luke says you could hear the terror in his voice. 

"Luke honey, go back upstairs" Mrs. Jenkinson says to her son. 

"No, I think he should stay. Maybe my mother wil-" She gets cut off by her mother slapping her in the mouth. 

"Oh my god!! Ms. Sullivan I think you need to leave. Right now! Before I call the police!" Mrs. Jenkinson practically screams at her.

"Fine, come on Kate we are leaving." She says. 

"I am not going anywhere with you! You stupid witch! You think I'm just oing to stand here and let you treat me like your little rag doll! No! I am not going with you I am stayiing here!" Kate screams at her mother. After Kate catches her breath she begins again..

"Now leave before I spill your little secret to Mrs. Jenkinson! Then she will have more than one reason to call the police and have you put in jail!" Kate states giving her mother a death glare. 

Worried looks come from her mother and Luke. Mrs. Jenkinson has a really confused looks on her face because she has no clue what Kate is talking about. After Kates mother leaves there is a long silence. 

"What did you mean by spilling her little secret then having another reason to put her in jail?" Mrs. Jenkinson said breaking the silence in the living room. Before Kate speaks she looks over at Luke who is already looking at her with a worried and anger looking expression. 

"Well I am not supposed to say anything about it.. So I don't think I should bring it up or the sake of people getting hurt." Kate says and looks over at Luke with a smile. He looks relieved that she didn't tell his mother what had happened between him and Kates mother. 

"Is it really that bad that you can't even tell me? You normally tell me everything." Mrs. Jenkinson says with a frown. 

"Please mother she said she couldn't tell you. Respect her wishes." Luke says and a surprised look appears on his mothers face. His mother gets up and leaves the room and starts to make dinner. After Luke makes sure she can't hear him and that she is out of the room completely he thanks Kate for not saying anything about what hppened with her mom. 

"It's nothing really. I didn't want to be the one who had to tell your mother." Kate states. 

"I just don't want to tell her because it's kind of embarrassing to tell someone about something like that.. That's probably why I haven't told anyone.." Luke says quitely. 

"So I'm the only one who knows?" Kate says nervously. 

"Yes, yes you are. I'm sorry that you had to be in this whole thing.." He says fighting back the tears. For a guy who does show his emotions, he is having a hard time fighting them off now. 

"You don't need to apologize I'm the one who walked in on you and won't let my mother hear the end of it." Kate says walking over to sit next to Luke on the couch, giving him a hug.
