My name is Aurora, I am 17-years-old, and I live in Banff, Alberta.

My mom left us when I was only 6 years old, and we never talked again. The last memory I ever had of my mom was picking up her bags, walking out the door without even looking at us. I made my way to the window and saw her throw her bags into the back of another man's car, kiss him, and they drove away. I cried when I couldn't see her out the window anymore. But after years, I finally questioned my Dad why she left.
"She left us for another man." He told me, hugging me in his lap. That is what made me ball. My own mom just left us because she thought Dad wasn't good enough for her.

But I'm over it now, and try not to think of her anymore. I'm an only child, so my dad and I only have each other. And that's all I need.

I am happy though, I get to travel with my dad whenever he has to go to Churchill, Manitoba. Which is every couple of weeks.

He is a polar bear scientist, and whenever we are living in our home in Alberta, he does his work online.

Ever since I was born, I was always fascinated in polar bears, not just because my dad works with them, but because I've strangely always been attached to them.

The first time I've ever seen one was when I was 12 months old, my parents brought me to Churchill because my dad had to work out there for a week.

Now, to get into the story, this is the beginning of my Arctic journey.
