Dear Mitch,
Look, I'm sorry, okay? I don't know how many times I can humanly say it.
I know I hurt you, and I know I'm selfish. I never meant to be, and that should count for something, shouldn't it?
I'm sorry that this happened to us, that we had to live in some conservative town, in some conservative state where we couldn't be ourselves. But, you have to understand, there was nothing I could do. It wasn't my fault.
I'm sorry that you're hurting, and I wish with all my heart that I could just drop everything and come home to you. But, I can't. I have real obligations here. I'll finally be someone.
Sometimes, it's hard to keep going, but in the end, you just have to. Maybe one day, you'll grow up and finally get that.
Truly,
Scott
