I stood, paralyzed. Like I was watching someone slowly die. Every limb, every skin cell in my body panicking. My heart was beating against my chest so fast it was painful. What hurt the most was knowing I couldn't keep my secrets anymore. This wouldn't be the last time someone noticed. My mind was racing with excuses, thousands of things I could have done to get away from the situation.
But I just stood their. Staring at her.
She stood there staring at me patiently, yet confused. Her brown eyes flicker from my lips to my sleeve. "Let me see." Her voice hit me like cleavers to the chest. It felt like my blood was melting my ribs.
"Let go of me" I whimper, my voice hoarse.
"Show me."
"Just stop" I pull my hand away, which is now numb. "There's nothing to see."Prove it. Show her. Watch how fast she'll run away.
By now we're the only ones in the lunch room.
"Follow me" I leave the lunch room doors and walk off the schools property.
"Where are we going?"
"Just keep walking"
Levi grabs my arm again, clearly annoyed at me. She yells. She stares at my sleeve and her voice softens."Please."
I squint at her. "You don't even know my name.""You didn't tell me."
I dig my nails into my palm. "Just come on."
