Chapter two: Home Truths

After Freddie hung up, I tried to remember that kiss. So I'd kissed a prince and I couldn't remember it, classy, Ruby, really classy.

"Ella! Izzy!" I called from my room where I'd been on the phone to Freddie. They came into the room. "Thanks for playing that little trick on me girls," I said sarcastically. "I don't even want to know how you managed to learn off his number so quickly."

"Hey," Izzy said. "I can't help it if you're my OTP." Wow. That is a new level of creepiness.

"Anyway," Ella said, changing the subject. "How bad was it?"

"Did he not remember you?" Izzy asked.

"Oh, he remembered me alright," I said. "We kissed last night."

"WHAT?!" They said together.

"I know," I said. "But I don't really remember it, that's the problem!"

"Ooh," Izzy said. "This would make a really good manga!"

"Moving on," Ella said quickly. "What are you going to do?"

I grimaced. "Hopefully, I'll remember more by four o clock."

"What's at four?" Izzy asked.

"Oh, we're having coffee," I said trying to stay casual but I ended up giving it away by blushing.

"Ooh you like him!" Izzy said teasingly. She's probably already writing a fanfiction about this.

"Be careful, Roo," Ella said. "He's got a reputation for being a player." I couldn't help it, my heart sank.

"You were the one that made me call him!" I said.

"I didn't think you two kissed!" Ella said. "Just don't expect it to last forever, he doesn't keep his girlfriends for long."

"Like he could even have that many girlfriends," Izzy piped up. "It's a new girl everyday by this stage!"

"That's true," Ella agreed. "But still, be wary of him."

After that wonderful pep talk from Ella and Izzy, I was feeling pretty bad about this whole date-with-a-prince thing. But still, I had agreed to meet him for coffee and that's what I'm going to do. I mean, it's only coffee! We're just going out, as friends, to talk about the fact that we kissed last night. I sighed loudly. We still hadn't decided on a place to meet up and it was almost four by this stage (which surprised me-its funny how time flies when you're waiting for something). I texted his phone (or maybe Angie's) asking about where we were going.

'Look outside,' he texted back. I hastily looked outside my living room window and saw a black car parked right outside my flat. Ignoring the questions from my roommates I ran down to the car, pulling a coat on as I went.

'Want to get going?' Freddie asked as he hopped out of the car.

"You are such a stalker,' I said. 'How on earth do you know where I live?"

"Apparently my chauffeur dropped you home last night," Freddie said casually. I shrugged, I really need that coffee.

We got in the car and soon enough we were at a coffee shop. We went in and ordered and everyone kept looking over at Freddie and doing double-takes. I had to stop myself from laughing, if only they knew...

"So," I said breaking the silence as we sat and drank our coffees. "Are you and James close friends?"

"Yeah," Freddie said. "We went to school together." There was an awkward silence. "What about you, Ruby where are you from originally?"

"I'm part English and part American," I said. "But I was raised in Georgia by my mom and step-dad."

Freddie nodded. "I've never been to Georgia." He said.

"Oh, you should totally go," I said. "Especially to my town because its so small and everyone is so nice and the weather is WAY better than here!" I laughed. Oh great, now I'm laughing at my own jokes. Super cool.

"If you like it so much," Freddie said. "What made you leave?"

I reddened slightly. "My, uh, my boyfriend well really he was my fiancé got a job over here so I followed him. We were gonna get married and everything as soon as we were settled but..." I trailed off.

"What happened?" Freddie asked looking deeply into my eyes. I looked away from his gaze finding eye-contact difficult with him.

"Millwicke is a lot being than my little town population-wise," I said awkwardly. "There are a lot more girls here and I guess he liked them better than me."

"Wait, he cheated on you?"

"Yep."

"He's crazy," Freddie said. "Why would he want to cheat on you- you're so pretty!"

"Stop it," I said. "No I'm not and anyway it takes more than just a pretty face to keep a boyfriend, there's this thing called having a conversation you know!"

He laughed but it was somewhat awkward because I basically just gave out to him when he was trying to call me pretty. He just called me pretty! I reddened quite a bit.

"Ok, so how long we're you two engaged for?" Freddie said.

"Nearly a year," I said. "It's crazy to think about it like that. I spent three years with him and I thought everything was perfect and we'd be together forever but then I moved here and everything has changed so much! I've got a new job, new friends and lived in two houses in six months. That's not even counting break up with Drake and kissing a pr-you." I finished making sure no one knew he was actually Prince Freddie.

He laughed. "Yeah we did, didn't we? Well, I've woken up next to a lot worse after a night out."

"Is that supposed to be a compliment?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Um... Sort of. I'm so awkward when it comes to things like this."

"Don't worry," I said. "So am I." I leaned in a little closer, I think he's trying to get me to go out with him. Like I would ever say no! I had to stop myself from smiling like an idiot so I wouldn't look like a total creep when he asked me out. Boys are so typical.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to say..." Freddie said. This is so cute. He's nervous because he think I'm going to say no. I fluttered my eyelashes to show him that I like him a lot too.

"That's okay," I said leaning in a bit closer to him, that's it I'm going to just kiss him and all the awkwardness of actually having to ask me out will be gone. I leaned in closer and closer and closed my eyes aaaand...

"I've got a girlfriend."
