It was cold. The running made the wind surrounding him body feel chillier and harsh than it should. The men trailed behind him, yelling for him to stop. He kept going, his little legs pounding against the dirt past as he speed off further into the poorly lit streets of the city. The footsteps chasing him was he gradually getting closer and no matter what advantage he had for being younger, their experience in running outweighed it. He was out of breath, exhausted and lightheaded from the lack of meals he could scavenge up.

"The brats there. Get him!"

He hid behind the barrels that the corner had provided for him. He heard the stockier of the two's footsteps get closer. He couldn't breathe for fear had got the best of him. He was scared. No. More like petrified. A scream ran through the air. He was confused for it wasn't his. The breeze soon brough the smell of iron and rust to him. It reminded him of the patients at the clinic his father had run out of their old house. Soon another scream occurred, belonging to the stockier guy that had came close to finding him. An animalistic growl filled the air and the sound of blood dripping followed it. Soon the clash of swords and howls were all around him. The fight was no longer for him but against something else.

"We're late. He already killed the rouge samurais." A new voice echoed through out the air.

"There's another person here." Another voice followed the previous one. He felt a swish of wind then something cold and hard press against his throat.

"What did you see?" Yet another voice. This one harsher, less human than the others.

"Nothing. I didn't see nothing" He tried to act calm and confident but the crackle in his voice betrayed him.

"What should we do?" The second voice had asked. There was no reply however. Or none that he had heard. His mind swiveled around and went into darkness.

When he woke, he couldn't move. His arms and legs had been bounded and something was stuffed into his mouth. He felt the sun's rays against his skin so he could tell it was day. Everything around him was quiet except the distant clashing of swords. Memories of yesterday flooded his mind. So they have not killer them. But would they? He had to find his father. He needed to know why the communication had stopped. No one in his home town had known or at least they didn't tell him. He could feel the feeling of remorse and false happiness whenever he went out for supplies however. He knew something was wrong; something no one wanted him to know. They thought since he was young that he wouldn't of figure it out. How wrong where they.

"I need you to follow me to the meeting room." A new voice appeared. This one however was not full of coldness but warmth. It felt friendly. The owner of the voice had rearrange the bindings, helper him up and led him through the compound. He felt the stares follow him as he walked. Soon a door slid opened then closed behind him.

"Sit." He felt the floor around him for a cushion then sat on top of it. Stares was all he felt again. Just stares. Some were curious. Some was cold. Some just lacked emotions.

"This is the boy? He's no older than ten. What was he doing running around in the night?" This new voice was warm like the one that led him out of the room. More fatherly however. The hole in his heart that his father had brought quivered at the sound of the voice.

"He saw the rasetsu kill two rouge samurai then us dispose of it. We can't let him live. It's too dangerous. If news was to get out then we'll have more troubles." This was the first voice from yesterday. It was cold and held no emotion. However it sounded like silk and deep. He liked the sound of it.

"You guys thought I saw something?" He asked his voice quivering yet again.

"Don't play dumb brat. We killed the rasetsu right in front of your face." The voice echoed back towards him yet again. Anger started to lace through it. The voice thought he was lying.

He laughed however. "Me see anything. Have you not seen my eyes?" Laughter probably was not the best choice big action right now but the need of it was necessary. "I can't see anything at all. I'm blind" His laughter was soon ceased when a large hand struck his face, causing him to tumble across the floor. He face then was soon raised and he felt his eyelids being prodded at.

"The boy isn't lying. His eyes are truly blinded." A new voice made an appearance. It was filled with intellectual reasoning and curiosity.

"What are we going to do now. Can we still kill him?"

"No we are not killing this young boy, blind or not! We shall not cut down the week. We offer help to those needing." The fatherly voice made its reappearance. "My name is Isami Kondou. What is yours young boy?"

"Chizuru Yukimura." He was eager to respond to Kondou. He finally had a name for one of the voices.

"Yukimura? Any relations to Koudou?" Chizuru's heart pounded at the name of his father. He finally had a lead.

"He is my father! Is he here? I want to see him. I been searching for him for months." Chizuru was ecstatic. He was finally going to see his father again. He would feel loved and the sense of belonging that had vanished when the letters had stopped appearing.

"Ah I see. You haven't heard, have you? Your father is missing. The clinic he worked in was burned to the ground but his body was not found." The intellectual voice's words cause his heart to plummet. It was just another dead end.

Kondou spoke up. "We're researching his disappearance and looking into it. How about you stay with us until we find your father. I swear we will." Chizuru heart was still breaking from the lose of hope he was just filled with. But Kondou said he will find him. He promises. He couldn't say anything however. His mouth wouldn't form any words. He just responded with a nod.

Author notes

I know Chizuru is a girl. After watching the anime several times I am aware. However at this point of the story Chizuru will adopt a boy identity but it will disappear soon as he/she comes into age and realize the difference between the genders. It's just a matter of how Chizuru was raised. Please go along with it for now. It won't last long I promise. Please comment about what you think and mistakes I had made. All comments are appreciated. Thank you!
