It was cold. Freezing actually. Kondou and the other nice man has left for a mission, leaving him with the stoic samurais. He was trapped in his room; it was too dangerous to let a little boy run outside amongst the older men. They might hurt him. They were like giants. They easily towered over him. But everyone towered Chizuru. Even compared to the other ten year old boys in his home village. He used to be taller but the boys caught up to him in height and we're as Chizuru's growth was slow, they were like weeds. It angered him. Was he going to grow to be strong and fit like the men? He felt the bony limb he called his arm. There was no way he could grow to be like that. Maybe it wasn't for his genetics.

The sword that held his family crest was at his hip. It took hours of persuading to let them release it back to him. His side just didn't feel right without it. It was a lifeline as well as protection. He knew the basic elements of swordsmanship but mostly the sword was a walking stick so he could get around easily. It was difficult to always travel against the wall so it was handy at times. When the samurais had first saw him use the sword as a cane they laughed. It was torturing to Chizuru. He couldn't help he was blinded young. His father wouldn't even tell him what had happened. All he remembered was the smell of burning flesh and screams. A hand just like his had clutched onto him until they were ripped apart. He was sure he had a sibling.

Dad had always said he didn't though. Whenever he brought it up it was shut down. Curiosity flooded through him however. It was his fatal flaw like always. He needed to know everything and understand it all. He already couldn't see it so he needed to know it.

Dad.

They was still looking for him. Even after three months of being here they wasn't able to find any new leads. Another thing that angered him. What was the point of being here if they couldn't help him in the end. His lack of faith and trust in the Shinsengumi was slowly disappearing.  He felt the need to run again. Maybe his father would be in another city. He most likely wasn't here anyways. There was no use to it anymore. He couldn't take it.

He felt around the room to find his door. He listened for noise but heard nothing but his own breathing before opening his door. He crept outside and made his way down the corridor before he ran into a brick wall. A fleshy brick wall.

"Look what we have here." It was the cold voice again. He was younger than the other could voice and spoke fondly when Kondou was around. He scares Chizuru the most however. His fickleness drove him crazy.

"Souji what is he doing out here?" The young samurais voice asked directed towards the cold one. Yet another name he now knew. Souji.

"I found him trying to leave Heisuke. What should we do to him now." The cold voice or Souji was laced with joy. It terrified Chizuru. Was he going to kill him? His knees were getting weak and his hands sweaty at the thought.
