1 year earlier

I hate waiting. Always have. I just don't get why waiting is a thing. I guess you can call me impatient. It feels as though I've been sitting in this damn office chair for 50 years. It's taking every thing I have inside me not to stand up and leave.

I look around me and I see a mom with two kids squirming in her hands, a old couple, and a guy with brown hair and blonde tips. He was actually quite attractive. He was reading a book called, "Trafficking". I think I've read that book before. He then, looks up at me and I hurry and put my head down. I can tell he saw me because when I look back up he's smirking at me with one eyebrow raised. I've always wondered how people did that, along with winking. I was shit at winking, not a good winker. Is winker a word? I was spaced out by now that I didn't even hear the office lady calling my name. Finally, I snapped out of my daydream and jumped up. "I'm here, I'm here." I had one last glance at the blonde haired boy and saw him smiling at me. I laughed at myself and followed the lady down the long corridor.

She led me to a big wooden door. She opened the door only slightly so she could see inside.

"Mr. Greene, Ms. DeWitt Bukater is here for her interview."

I heard him sigh rather loudly and stand up from his chair, "yes, yes Christina, let her in."

I  guess, Christina, opened the door wider and motion me to move inside. I walked in to the large office taking in all my surroundings. He, Mr. Greene, had a bookcase from floor to ceiling filled with books, that I'm sure he's never read before. "Hello, Ms. DeWitt Bukater, please have a seat."

I did as told and took a seat in front of his desk, "please call me Rose." I said gently and respectfully. He smiled at me and look down at the papers on his desk.

"I like you Rose, tell me about yourself."

I thought for a moment. I didn't want to say anything stupid so I thought of what to say cautiously. "I'm from London. I've wanted to be an editor since I was 12 in sixth grade. I am trustworthy. Fast reader. Graduated from Oxford university, top of my class. Sorry if it seems as though I'm bragging."

"No no, I'm am very impressed. Thank you for coming in. I haven't seen anyone like you in years. You've got the job." I jumped out of my seat and covered my mouth with my hand so I wouldn't scream. "Ha ha, you start tomorrow at 10 am, sharp. I'll have Christina make you an I.D. card." Mr. Greene reached across his desk to grab his phone. "Christina, come in here, please."

"Mr. Greene, thank you so much! I won't let you down, I promise.

Promise ...

Christina came in and Mr. Greene told her to take me to get an I.D. card made. I walked out his office with one more smile his way and then out the door. Christina walked down the corridor to the end and entered a door on the left. A camera was inside and a bunch of equipment. "Stand on that x spot, Hun." I did as told and stood there. I looked at the camera and tried to smile naturally. After a few shots we picked out the best picture together and she made my card. She told me how to use it and then she escorted me back to the waiting room. I looked down at the card and it looked so professional. I looked around the room and saw the blonde looking at me, I waved at him and he waved back. I giggled a little and walked out the door, the cold Washington air hitting me.

I walked down the street and into a cafe. I ordered an iced soy latte and sat at a table waiting for my order. I got bored looking at my receipt and looked up. I saw a curly head fellow looking at me. He was gorgeous. Emerald eyes. Good structure. He stood up and walked over to me. "Jack." He said taking a seat. I looked at him and smiled, confident.

"Rose." He smiled at my name and I blushed.

"Soy latte #12!" A worker yelled my order. I stood up and as did, Jack.

"Well that's my order." I said to him walking up to the counter.

"Soy latte? Never heard that one before." He questioned as we walked out the cafe together.

"I'm vegan, so I drink soy milk." I explained.

"Ah, I understand." We continued walking.

"You live down this way too?"

"No, I'm just walking you home." He smirked at me. I stopped walking.

"What makes you think I want you to know where I live?"

"You know you do." I just laughed and continued walking. We kept talking about nothing, honestly. We learned simple facts about each other and laughed a little. We stop outside my apartment complex.

"This is me, thanks for walking me home."

"Ah, no problem." I waved a little wave and turn around, about to walk inside when Jack grabbed my arm. I turned back towards him. "Can we exchange numbers?" He asked with a flirtatious grin. He was nice and very cute, so I accepted. We exchanged phones and typed in our numbers.

"Bye DeWitt Bukater."

"Bye Dawson."

"What the hell, Rose, who is that?" My roommate and best friend Blake screamed at me as soon as I walked into the door. We have been friends since first grade. We've had a lot of bumps but everything worked out for the best.

"Were you watching me? Creep." I said jokingly, taking off my jacket and hanging it up.

"No, I just happened to look out the window and saw you talking to that guy." She shrugged her shoulders.

"His name is Jack Dawson, I met him at the cafe." I smile at myself walking into my bedroom to  change, Blake following me.

"You met him at a cafe? That's so cheesy."

"How? Didn't say anything was going to happen."

"True, true. How was the interview?" Ooh shit I forgot.

"Blake, Ooh my god, I got the job!" She jumped up off my bed and hugged me tight. I smiled into her hug, I loved her hugs.

I finished getting dressed. Putting on some grey "pink" shorts and a white tank top. We walked out my room and into the kitchen. "Wanna make some popcorn and watch a movie?" Blake asked?

"Yeah, "The Notebook"? She furiously shook her head yes. "Stop, don't want your head falling off."

The popcorn beeped and Blake turned on the movie. I poured the popcorn in a bowl grabbed her a cherry coke and me a mountain dew. I walked into the living and sat down on the couch. She pressed play and I gave her, her drink and put the popcorn on my stomach laying my head on her shoulder. Not long after I drifted off to sleep.

Okay so this is the first chapter of hopefully a great book. I hope you like it so far and give any feed back that you want. And yes the character that Blake is based off is actually my best friend in real life. Love you, xoxo
