The stale smell of cigarette smoke filled my lungs. It had been awful, the first few times I had second hand smoked. But I was used to it by then. I slumped down against the hard brick wall and sighed.
'Don't look so sad,' whispered Mel, who had sat down next to me. I put my head between my knees, ignoring her blatantly. I tried to concentrate on the conversation taking place above me, but it was too confusing. The little light that the full moon provided was not enough to be able to differentiate between the two people talking, who had awfully familiar voices. Well, it seemed that way whilst I was slightly drunk.
'I can't believe you just did that!' exclaimed one of the girls, either Rachel or Tess.
'Well we gotta have fun somehow don't we?' replied the other. Although it was dark, the smirk they had on their face was evident in their voice.
'I agree but, Jesus Christ Rachel, you didn't have to shoplift!' that was Tess.
'You can't deny you felt alive as you ran away from the cops.'
I looked up at the shadows in front of me, wondering when I could leave without being rude. I glanced at my phone simply to check the time. 2 am.
Fuck.
'Guys,' I mumbled, my speech slightly slurred, 'guys I have to get home.'
One of the shadows above me threw their cigarette down onto the floor next to me, squishing it with their high heeled boots as well. I heard a low chuckle.
'Fucking weak.'
I grumbled, 'fuck off I'm tired... and slightly drunk.'
Mel pushed herself off the wall next to me and held out her hand for me to take. I stood up with her assistance and immediately felt the world tilt under me. Maybe I was drunker than I thought. I could feel Tess, Rach, and Mel's eyes on me.
'Someone care to show me to the car?' I asked in a mock English accent. I felt giddy but exhausted at the same time.
'As your designated driver, and the only one here who isn't stoned or drunk, I'll take you home,' said Mel. She was generally alright with being the sober one, but she seemed a bit pissed off.
'Thanks,' I mumbled as I followed her out of the small alleyway we were sitting in. I had to watch my feet so I didn't stack it and fall on my ass for the millionth time tonight.
'Oh gee, bye to you too Jess,' the sarcastic remark was definitely Rach.
'Hope you're alright tomorrow Jess,' said Tess.
'Shit sorry, bye Tess and Rach, I'll chuck you a text tomorrow,' I slurred.
Mel took me to her car which seemed to be parked way further away then than it was at 8 when we arrived. Not only was everything blurry as fuck, but my feet were killing me. 6 hours of high heeled ankle boots was surely a health hazard. I flopped into the passenger side of Mel's car and tried not to fall asleep as we drove to my house.
'Rach is fucking crazy' commented Mel. I chuckled to myself.
'Of course. Gotta admit it was kinda fun though.'
'It was not! It was scary as shit man, what if we got caught?'
'Oh well. We didn't get caught, and that's all that matters.'
Mel sighed and I smiled to myself as I shut my eyes, trying to sleep. I could lie to Mel as much as I wanted, but I couldn't lie to myself. Of course I was shit scared, it was impossible not to be with what we just did. We helped Rach steal alcohol and cigarettes, and we already had weed with us. If we got caught, we'd be fucked for life. I tried to calm myself down. We hadn't been caught.
Plus, it did make me feel alive as I ran from the cops in high heeled boots. I won't lie, I felt like a fucking legend.
We were silent the rest of the way to my house. As we slowed to a stop in my driveway, I groaned and opened the passenger door.
'Thanks for the ride Mel,' I said, giving her the best smile I could muster at 2:30 in the morning.
'No worries, just get some sleep and let me know how you are tomorrow.'
I shut the car door hard and walked to my front door. I didn't fall, miraculously enough. Fumbling with my keys and struggling to find the right one, I practically fell inside. I chuckled as I made my way into my run down house, feeling up the wall in order to find the light switch.
Once I had found my way to the bathroom and taken my makeup off, I stumbled into my bed. The mattress seemed so much softer when I was drunk. I loved it.
I drifted off to sleep without a worry in my mind.

I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of my fanfiction. This was the main introduction chapter, but the characters will be explained a little more throughout the following chapters. I'll try to update once per week, but that may change when the summer holidays end. I'm sorry. Anyway, thanks for reading even this far, I really appreciate it!
Much love,
