Few Days Later
Where do you want me to meet you ? I texted Vince.
In the parking lot of Smoothie King. My phone buzzed with a text message from Vince.
Pull up to the red Toyota corolla located near the entrance. Another message read.
Within fifteen minutes I arrived at my destination. Vince standing at the rear side of his car with back slightly leaning against it. When he noticed me turning into the lot he pushed his body off the car. Moments later I parked my car then turning the engine off. I got out off my car and walked to where Vince now stood.
"Hey hot-stuff", Vince greeted me with his best smile.
"Hey", I replied with a smile just as bright as Vince.
"What's up?" He asked as we approached the store.
"Nothing much, you? " I asked looking up at him.
"You should ready know my answer, same old bs."
Vince wore a simple white t-shirt, a pair of khaki capris along with a light shade of brown Sperry top-sider that was similar to a tan color. His hair was brushed back from his face with most of it laying on one side. I, on the other hand wore a turquoise tank top with a shorts that reached me mid thigh. On my feet I wore a simple white push toe scandal. My hair was in bun and I chose to not wear any make-up.
After placing our orders, we sat at a table close to the windows. Vince sat across from me. I looked around the restaurant analyzing the people that held smiles on their face. The noise within the restaurant wasn't loud but almost peaceful. The laughs along with the conversations of the individuals filled my ears. I pierced my eyes outside watching the clouds move slowly pass the sun. Since it was an hour pass twelve O' clock in the afternoon the sun still stood slightly in the center of the sky. It was a beautiful visual sight beside the heat the sun brought with its rays.
"What are you planning to do after you finish high school? Vince asked interrupting my earlier thoughts. I turned my focus to him and replied.
"I plan to attend Emory University and major in English. They have a program called college of arts and science which would be perfect for me since I'm interested in creative writing."
"That's great, I didn't know you were interested in English."
"Your smoothies are ready. One strawberry banana and vanilla berry." The waitress said then placing the smoothies on the table.
"Thank you." Vince and I said in unison. The waitress nodded her head leaving us to enjoy the beverage.
I took a sip of my vanilla berry smoothie, it was pure delight in my mouth. The two flavor were blended together with pure perfection. I could not get enough.
"Slow your role buddy you might get a brain freeze."
I giggled at Vince's remark.
"It's really good, I can't help myself." I said taking the straw out of my mouth.
"But as I was saying earlier. I love writing, I have interested in it since I could remember. But the thing is Emory is expensiveeeee. And that's not even the best part its their acceptance rate that kills me. Twenty-three point six percent, that is ridiculously low. What are my chances of getting in?"
"Damn. Your writing skills is gonna have to be top notch."
"Yeah, what do you want to do after high school?"
"I was thinking of maybe going in architecture. Plus since I live here in Miami maybe I'll to UM (University of Miami) and join the school of architecture. Money is not really a problem for me because my parents lift me a whole sum of it when they died."
"Your parents died?"
"Yeah, when I was four. Their car was ran off the road when we lived in Germany. I was at daycare at the time. When it was time for me to go home my aunt picked up instead of parents. On my way home I kept asking my aunt where my parents were but she kept telling me she would tell me when I got home. When we did get to my house my aunt told me that my parents died in a car accident on their way to work. I didn't know how to react so I screamed down the house, yelling for my mom and dad. A few weeks later I moved here to Miami to live with my grandparents."
"I'm sorry, my mom died about a month ago." I stated with a sad tone.
"Oh I'm sorry, how are you holding up ?"
"I'm fine, I just miss her so much." I said with a weary voice.
"Hug?" Vince asked with a sly smile.
"Yeah." Vince stood up from his seat and stood above me. He leaned his upper body down to my shoulder and engulfed his body with mine.
He wrapped his arm around my lower back as I hugged him around his neck. I used my left hand to wipe away the stray tears from my eyes. Vince hugged me tighter as he whisper reassuring words in my ear.
