"We should go out tonight."

I sipped on my coffee, not paying my two other roommates any mind as they chattered amongst themselves. I was currently finishing up a small project that I had put a lot of hard work into. I was almost certain that I was going to ace it.

It was Friday afternoon, Dinah and Normani both having arrived from work 20 minutes ago. They kicked their shoes off and collapsed on the love seat couch, immediately complaining about their jobs and co-workers.

Camila was yet to text me.

She absolutely despised when I texted her first.

I know that she would still want me over tonight.

She always wanted me over on Friday's.

I sent my photography presentation to my professor, powering off my MacBook and then shutting it closed.

"You should come, Laur." My dark-skinned best friend grinned.

"Oh, I can't. Uhm, I have...plans. I also don't want to be the fifth wheel if Nela or Thomas go." I smirked, placing the rim of my coffee mug against my plump lips.

"No! It would just be the three of us. I swear. DJ, you cool with that?" Normani raised a brow up at the Polynesian girl.

"Girl, I'm fine with anything. As long as Laur is gonna turn up with us, I'm cool." She said, inspecting her manicured nails.

"Guys, I really, really can't. It's just something I can't get out of. These plans are super important." I was a blubbering mess, anxious that I might need to cancel my plans with Camila.

Dinah tutted, rolling her chestnut brown eyes. "You been busy on Friday's since I can last remember, Lo. All we asking for is one day to get wasted. I thought we were your girls."

"Yeah, c'mon, Lo. You can always just reschedule your plans for another day." Normani placed her feet on the coffee table, her head rested on Dinah's shoulder.

"Fine! Fine, okay. I'll go." A small chuckle escaped me when my two friends immediately stood up, practically tackling me with a hug.

"I need to find me an outfit!" Dinah fist-pumped the air after pulling away from our group embrace.

"You both totally just made me spill my coffee." I whined, wiping the - now cold - beverage off of my shirt with a napkin.

Normani was in the kitchen by now, Dinah in her room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

How the fuck was I going to tell Camila?

***

It was 9 in the evening.

Dinah and Normani were busy getting dressed in their rooms while I lay sprawled out on my small bed.

We were supposed to leave at 11:00, but I was patiently waiting for a text from Camila before I got dressed.

It never came.

So, I nervously sent one to her.

To Camila: I can't come over tonight.

A few minutes passed before I felt my phone vibrate on my chest.

From Camila: What do you mean you can't come ever?

From Camila: What the fuck, Lauren?

My stomach was filled with butterflies, but it wasn't the good kind.
