A sweaty palm clamps around my mouth, muffling my screams. I cringe as an unbearably large package rams inside of me, the pain unbareable.

Rowland's hungry eyes look down at me, a smirk on his face. "How does it feel to be helpless, slut?" he sneers. "Your body is my play thing. One day, you'll be all mine."

Tears pool out of my eyes as his words register, and as I continue to fearfully stare into his eyes, I see my future dancing around them. If I truely do become his, my life will never take a turn for the better. I'll never see my parents again. Never see my brothers. I'll be forced to succumb to every one of Rowland's wicked desires, just as I have been for the past three years. He'll end up killing me.

His hand swoops down, the impact against my cheek containing enough force to make blood spew out of my nose. My whimpers immediately cease.

"Stop crying. You know you want this."

I never wanted any of this. All I wanted was a job so that I could provide for my family. Never would I think that my good intentions would lead to a lifestyle of endless pain and suffering.

My subconscious immediately jolts out of its sleeping state. Strangled screams fill my ears as I throw the heavy covers off of me, fighting an invisible force. Those words once spoken to me by Rowland have haunted me ever since that day. The only thing that really frightens me about that statement is that he never made it clear as to when that day would come.

A frantic female voice breaks through my ear-shattering screams. I lash out at whoever is trying to calm me. I don't like being touched, no matter where it is. Don't touch me.

"Aerie!" I hear Phoenix yell. Once I hear her voice, I immediately stop fighting her and open my eyes. "You're okay, hun. There's nobody here that'll hurt you. You're safe."

My lip trembles against its will, and I place my head in her lap as she sits on the edge of my bed, tears staining my cheeks. "He's after me," I whisper in between sobs.

"No one's going to hurt you, Aerie. I won't allow it," Phoenix coaxes me.

My head shakes in disagreement. "He's too powerful. He'll do anything to have me."

"Who?"

I don't answer.

Phoenix smoothes down my hair as I silently sob into her lap, shaking. The door bursts open and we both jump.

Looking towards the ground, I see a familiar pair of worn and tattered navy blue slippers. My body tenses.

"Is everything alright?" Dominic's commanding voice penitrates the silence in the room.

"Everything's fine," Phoenix reassures him.

"I heard her screaming. Something must be wrong." His feet begin to advance towards us.

"Dominic," Phoenix says in a serious tone I only hear her use around him.

He stops, and I hear him sigh. "I just want to make sure that she's okay."

"She's fine. Just let her rest for now. Okay?"

Silence fills the room once again, and I wonder if he's left since I've managed to close my eyes once more.

"Are you sure she's okay?" he questions.

"Yes, Dominic. Just let her calm down. Now go back to bed."

I let out a breath I wasn't aware I was holding in as he retreats and shuts the door behind him. Slowly, I lift my head from the comfort of Phoenix's lap. Her sea green eyes are searching mine as I look up at her. "You okay, hun?"
