I sat up quickly, to quickly. My face was still sore from me and Kim's earlier altercation, I looked at my phone screen and the brightness nearly blinded me, the screen read 2:15 am. I rubbed my eyes and slowly creeped out of Kim's bedroom trying not to wake the beast. I slowly walked down the hallway trying to be as quiet as possible, and I was quiet until I felt something brush past my face it took everything in me not to scream, but then I realized it was the string to release the steps to the attic. I looked around before pulling the string cautiously. The stairs unfolded before me and as I began to climb them I had second thoughts about going into the attic, I wasn't scared or anything its just that my conscience was bothering me, but I knew I had to find out the truth no matter what.
Step by step I entered the dark, dusty attic. I used my elbows to pull me the rest of the way, and my hand wondered around the floor instinctively. I was lucky enough that there was a flash light on the floor I grabbed and flipped the switch It was almost as if the small dusty attic came to life. The only good thing I knew about my aunt Clair was that she was a collector, and I myself was also one so I respected this about her. I moved the light towards a shelf that caught my eye, the shelf looked ancient, I was almost afraid that if I touched it,it might fall apart. I stood directly in front of it scanning the shelves for anything suspicious, and thats when I saw it a rectangular shaped metal box with a lock on it. I picked up the box carefully and examined it, as my eyes came to the rear of the box a little worn out label sticker read Clair's keepsakes. My eyes bloomed with fascination and I dropped to my knees to see if I could maybe brake the lock. I lifted up the flashlight and turned it facing upwards I positioned the lock so that with enough force I might have a chance at breaking it. I used all of my strength and swung downwards in the lock. It broke on contact and I did a little happy dance in my mind. I grabbed the box and got back up on my feet, when I opened the lid I was shocked at how little it actually contained. I had expected to see pictures, mysterious keys, and maybe an old hairbrush or pen. Well I got one of them right, inside the box there were only 4 things a journal, a key, a locket, and a note. Being the inquisitive lady I am I of course opened and read the note first.
"My dearest Clair,
I miss you, I miss everything about you, your smile, your hair, your dazzling green eyes, your love, and your company, thats what I miss the most I am sorry that we never got to say goodbye but I will let this be my goodbye to you. I lived my whole life thinking I would never find love, but then I stumbled upon you the woman of my dreams, I will always love you until the end of time. -yours truly John-"
