To the prospective reader
Airdrie is a small town, technically a city, just a few minutes north of Calgary, Alberta, and the setting of this series. It, like much of Alberta, is a place with interesting, talented people who still say please and thank you—where you can still look off across a field and watch the land meet the sky. The newcomer or passer-through may wonder what there is to do here, and the young will dream about far-off lands and cities they see so often on television.
However, once you've spent a little time here, you might find that the area is very much like a duck on water: all the action is just below the surface. If you never take the time to scratch that surface, you'll miss out on a great deal. This quality makes Airdrie the perfect setting for the Airdrie Firefly series, through which I hope to do it justice.
So, if you like an urban-fantasy coating wrapped around a gooey coming-of-age center, if you have an explorer's heart, if you crave a little adventure, and if you are like me and enjoy an occasional dose of silliness, please settle in, and keep reading.
