Warm summer nights. Waves slamming calmly against the shore. Glasses clinking. Multiple conversations. It was a regular night at the bar. I was a bounty hunter, having a personal day off. Nothing wrong with a few drinks or so alone so why not?
Who knew stepping into this bar would change my life?
As I walk in, eyes wonder and all goes silent. I walk deeper inside and notice a few shady smirks and eyes that aren't pure. I hear men whistle and holler all around. My boots echo with each step as I get closer to the booth.
"Come sit with us lady!"
"I'll buy you a drink!"
"Come home with me!"
I groan as I sink into my stool. The bartender steps over and looks down at me.
"A woman like you probably shouldn't be in a bar like this," he rested his elbows on the booth and looked down upon me like some child.
"I can handle myself fine! All I came in here for was a damn drink,"
I slam my fist down in a tiny rage and suddenly, one man caught my eye.
"You heard the woman,"
He pulls a seat up next to me and tips up his hat with a smirk. Green hair, sharp eyes, toned face and body, with a leather jacket and steel toe black boots.
A bounty hunter who made eyes avoid him from fear. Roronoa Zoro.
"Get her a drink,"
He tossed a coin over to the bartender and he accepted it with silence.
I glanced at him with so much curiosity the sound around me was drowned out by my thoughts.
"Here y'go,"
The bartender slides me a tall cold drink that made my throat feel more dry than it was before.
"You didn't have to buy it for me,"
I glanced over and give him some money for the drink. He refused it and the bartender slid him down a twin to my drink.
"You pay me back by having a little drinking competition. If I win you buy me a meal, If you win I'll buy both of us a meal. Ready?"
This is what I dreamed of. A man who looks at me as an equal. I hold up my drink, a lot heavier than I thought it would be, and chug it down.
The bar crowded us now, and everyone was cheering. I was on my...I lost track. We've been doing this for what felt like hours, both red in the face and sloshed. We're at bottles now instead of glasses and I was close to my limit.
"You think yew can beat me???"
His voice was slurring and he swayed like a tree. I was losing control of my body and felt great but awful.
"Watch mee~"
I take another swig and empty my bottle. I slam it down so hard it shatters and all the men cheered. Zoro picked up his bottle and put it up to his mouth but before the drink met his lips he flew back onto the floor. Finished.
"C'mon Zorooo yew wuss...is that all yewve gawt?"
After another fifteen minutes of men cheering for my victory and an angry bartender kicking us out, I lean Zoro onto my side and we walk out the bar completely trashed. We walk up a hill (don't ask how...) and fall to the ground under the bright moons. There's three right?
"Hey lady,"
"Whaddya want moss face?"
"That was the best drinking game I've ever had,"
He chuckled and looked up at the sky.
"Are we sleeping here? This is a nice hotel,"
We laid there on the floor, silent for a moment.
"You should stick with me, having you around is a blast,"
I don't remember how I responded but I remember it made me happy.
Next morning was the most painful morning of my life. My head felt like it had its own heartbeat from how hard it was pounding. It took me forty two minutes to wake up Zoro.
"How much do you remember last night?"
He rubs his head and looks at me with confusion.
"I won the game and you were so impressed you proposed to me,"
His face got even redder than last night.
"Kidding. I did win though and you asked me to stay with you,"
He let out a sigh of relief and stood up.
"Ready for breakfast? I think you owe me a meal~"
