CHAPTER 1

The rain drops echoed through the house as the coldness of the weather took the heat away from my body. I wrapped my arms around me, hoping to keep the heat to myself from this drastic weather.

Rain. I’ve always hated rain.

Rain was always a sign of death or sadness in my life.

When I was born it was raining, my mother died. When I was celebrating my 12th birthday it was raining and we lost the house. At 16 I already lost my father due to a car accident, he was coming home from a meeting when it was raining. I need not more to explain what happened.

Rain was the symbol that life around me would end. It would always be around me who’ll be dying though. It was never me. Sometimes I wonder if I was cursed with this symbol.

I closed my eyes and rested my head on the wall as I see his face again. I always see his face, there was not a time where in his face wasn’t in my head.

“Min Young-ah?” his voice echoed through my ears.

I shuddered as I felt his arms wrap around my fragile body. He pulled me close to his, hoping to share the warmth he had in his body with mine.

I looked up and met eyes with the man who used to be there, Jung Dae Hyun. A tear escaped from my eye as his imaginary figure gets clearer and clearer.

“Don’t cry.” His angelic voice rang clear in my ears as if he was still there.

More tears came as the rain got louder. My sobs were joined with the thunder claps of the storm.

I could still feel the warmth of his presence beside me. I could still feel the weight of his head on mine as if I was resting on his shoulder. I could still feel him… as if he was still there.

“Ya, MinMin-ah.” He said my nickname and my heart ached, “Stop crying, oppa is here.”

I deeply inhaled as I choked on my tears. He was gone. He’ll never be here. What hurts more about his death was… it was my fault.

“Min Young-ah!” Yun Ho, my best friend ran to me with a big smile on his face.

“Oh, oppa.” I couldn’t help but smile back at him, “You seem happy today.”

“You wanna know why?” He asked. I couldn’t help but not notice that giddy-ness in his voice.

I nodded.

“She said yes!”

“OHMYGOD OPPA YAY!!” Not too soon it was the both of us who were jumping around and celebrating looking complete morons.

Yun Ho oppa had this huge crush on his childhood friend, Kahi unnie. The three of us were actually childhood friends, we stuck with each other until we graduated high school and college. We were the inseparable trio. Kahi was the strongest girl I’ve met and Oppa was the strongest boy. The both of them would always protect me from bullies and teach me how to fight back. These two bozos were like my parents. Little did these two morons know that if they opened up to each other about their feelings sooner, they could’ve been a couple already. But who cares, until now unni still likes oppa and the other way around.

“YA! Stop jumping like a band of babbling baboons and get back to work.” Our boss, BoA, yelled.

“Ne~” We bowed like good kids and giggled.

“I’m so happy for you two oppa.” I squeezed his arm as we walked back to the rooms.

“Me too.” Yun Ho blushed, “After her class she and I will officially be on our first date.”
