Hazel and the butler stood in silence for what seemed like an age to the five yr old girl. The butler spoke.
"Well then, we had be better getting you inside! Take your shoes off. The Master and his wife are going to want to see you soon but first you need something a little less... plain to wear. HENRIETTA!" a young maid came running out from behind a near door.
"Yes Sebastian."
"I want you to take this child- Hazel i think her name is, and find a more suitable dress for her to wear in front of the Ottertons.Go on then!" He ushered the maid towards where she had come from and signalled for hazel to go too.
Now hazel was alone with Henrietta, she noticed that the maid was very young- perhaps only fifteen. She then glanced at her surroundings.The floor covered with plush carpet was soft on her bare feet, then there was the lovely smell of soup cooking... Hazels stomach rumbled.
"Well then, what 'ave we got 'ere" teased the maid kindly with a smile. Hazel had never been smiled at an adult (or what seemed like one to her) but she felt warmed inside.
"Oh, so you 'ave got a li'ul smile for me!" Henrietta beamed whilst selecting out a pretty royal blue dress covered with lace and satin that was hazel sized.
"I- is th-that for me?" hazel stared dumbstruck.
"why, don't ya like it?" Henrietta looked worried.
"yes I - I love it- it's th the most beautiful thing i've ever seen! Hazel gazed longingly at the dress.
