As we left, i remeber to vivid image of Kentucky's beautiful scenery. The trees are something so perfect, it looked like a painted picture. Perfect green, red, orange, and yellow trees here and there. With the ocasional hill to see is all at once, then the low dips to see only a few parts up close. It was a slightly breezy day, but the sun hit my face, and it felt so warm.
Louisiana was also nice. I dont remember much, but just that it was nice. Beaumont (pronounced: bow-mont) had a similar vibe to Louisiana. It was close to it anyways.
Beaumont wasnt the prettiest city, but i found it beautiful. Between all the construction, i found the ocasional patch of grass to be a little treasure sprinkled here and there. With lots of food shops off to the side. The were lots of donut shops. It was also very hot and muggy down there. Our first night there (early morning, really) mabye 2:30 A.M.
We got a hotel room that had 2 beds in one room, and a pull out bed in the "living room" area. Our parents slept in the room while my older sister and i slept in the pull out bed. Not the most comfortable thing ever, but you work with what you got.
We stayed there for several days, mabye a week at most, then we found a new hotel. My mom drove her Toyota Highlander, while my Step Dad (Sunday) drove the 'Budget Truck' (the truck full of our boxes), with a blue Ford Focus attatched to the back. We eventually found another hotel room. It also had 2 beds, 1 pullout bed/coutch, and 1 bathroom. A mini fridge with a microwave ontop, and a big tv stand that held a mini fridge made for drinks.
Would you belive me if i told you we fit 6 people in that one-roomed hotel room for 3 1/2 months? It was really difficult. Luckily the hotel had a small out door pool, and the staff was always nice and helpful. But that was the harddest i have ever lived as far as a 'house' goes. Its hard and sad to imagine other people have it worse, even are homeless.
I got to experience some texas culture before school. How much more appreciated the mexican culture was down there. (Me being half mexican, i really enojoyed it) the horchata every where you went was my favorite. It reminded me of spending the weekends with my dad, whos from mexico.
I was introduced to a food known as Boudan. Boudan is possably the best food i have ever tasted. Mmm, its right up there with Hot Cheetos. Imagine dirty rice, spices, meat, (other ingredients i cant think of) all seasoned to perfection, wrapped in hot dog casing (aka pig intestine) and thats boudan. Its amazing!
And then there are 'kolaches' which is like Texas' way of saying "this is a fancy pig-in-a-blanket". It can have boudan or a hot dog in the middle (more common) sometimes the hot dog can have cheese or jalapeños in it, or be just plain. Then it is wrapped in a perfectly golden piece of bread like wrap. Kind of like those crescent rolls you can buy in a can? Ya, that. Like i said its a fancy pig-in-a-blanket.
The weather was really sunny! Its was always a good time for a dip in the pool in summer. Even on breezy days. That had to of been my favorite part before school rolled along.
Speaking of school, it finally rolled around. August. The month of school to start. I awaited axiously to become enrolled into this new school in beaumont. It smelled like a breath of fresh air. Leaving all thats Jefferson jr high school drama behind in toldedo.
I remeber the day Sunday (step dad) came home and said "You're starting school tomorrow so you will need you're rest" "WHAT! TOMORROW! WHAT DO YOU MEAN TOMORROW! WHAT ABOUT SCHOOL SUPPLIES!?!" My anxiety started to surface without hesitation.
"It will be fine. We'll figure it out, we always do." He reasured me.
The next day i woke up at 11:30 am."Hu! Im late already! Sunday wak--" but realize everyone was gone. Mom to work. Sunday ana and the kids gone. "I guess they're all with sunday." I thought to myself. Lo and behold they were.
I was then told i was going tomorrow. Then wednesday. Then friday. Then i didnt start till monday. I picked out my clothes to start school. Little did i know that almost every school in Texas followed a strict dress code.
So ironicly when i was picking out my clothes, i picked out a loud purple tanktop with a wrap. And matching pink to purple neon ombre capri pants. How flashy in a school of only white and navy blue.
I woke up early in the morning. 6:30 in the morning. I was ready by 7:00. Felt confidant with my hair trimmed acordingly. My sister and i enter the car with our little sibilings, first isaiah (my 5-yr-old brother) was dropped off first. This made us late because he had to be enrolled. Then my sister was dropped off.
By the time i reached my school, Odom Academy, it was around 10:00. 2 hrs into the school day. Then i took a deep breath as i got out of the doors of my family's little blue ford focus. I opened the doors and--
