Draining the clock day after day
We waste our time on freeways
Blindly chasing paper green as leaves
Burning fields of hope and cutting trees.
We've created lights yet we cannot see
The atrocities being executed at our doorstep.
The grass is no longer greener on the other side,
Hollow heads and pockets full of gold
Have blinded the poor and replaced emotions.Emotions: A distant memory
Chase them!
They are the light eclipsed by mountains of money
Severing families, starving children and
Murdering the innocent on the bloody streets.
Chase them!
Chase the gangs wearing badges who shoot at their shadows
Keep womyn on leashes
And sell children to mental institutions.
Wake up!
To the soldiers aimlessly firing into the arabian mist
Running into the opaque desert storms
Kissing their loved ones good bye - wake up!
To the teachers molding the minds of children,
Allow them to explore their vast, vivid imaginations!
Do not cloud their fragile, benevolent minds - wake up!
To the blue collar workers slaving away under the abrasive sun
Breathing heavily while smug, hard headed businessmen rest
In their cool, secure mansions - wake up!
To all the voiceless men, womyn and children who live in the shadows
Of consumerism - rise.Day after day we fade away like the dreams of true Americans
Who dream of a land prosperous, free and equal...Wake up.
