[Chapter 01 || Desolated]

[Starting Arc]

Castiel remembered the smell of smoke, the colors of the fire and the screams of every man, woman and child in the sanctuary.  He also remembered what he was feeling at the time. It was like the world was crumbling before him. It was like whoever started the outbreak just did it so he or she could make Castiel want to die, even though he knew that couldn't be true.

He remembered just standing there, unable to move because of the shock and fear that went through him. He saw his big brother Gabriel in the distance, the dead or 'zombies' as the teenagers in the sanctuary called them, coming right for him. That's what made him move.

His feet felt heavy but no heavier then his heart as he started to run. He had never been super close to Gabriel but he was all he had. The rest of his family was gone.

Castiel remembered the taste of dirt in his mouth when he fell, tripping over his own feet like the genius he is.  He got up, wiping the soil off his mouth. The crowd full of of the dead and the living in front of him, covering Gabriel.

At this moment he remembered not caring. He would find Gabriel, he would die finding him. He didn't get a chance to go try and find him again as a strong hand pulled him away, a hand that had the smell of alcohol on it but he could barely smell it through the fire and the smell of blood.

It seemed to happen so slowly as he got pulled away, his mouth open in a desperate, sad shout.

"Cas? Cas!"

Castiel's eyes snapped open. They closed for a moment as the sunlight burned his newly opened eyes for a moment. He then opened them, turning his head to the voice.

"Finally." A tired sigh escaped Dean's mouth. He was in his car seat, hands on the wheel even though the car was parked.  "You wouldn't wake up, you worried me for a second."

"I apologize." Castiel replied, his voice huskier then usual from sleep. He sat up in his car seat.

They had been practically living in this car for about a month now. The car was Dean's, he had it before the outbreak and he loved the car, even calling it 'Baby' every now and then.

"You were dreamin' of something." Dean said. "I could tell, you were twitching in your sleep."

"Yes. I can't remember what the dream was though." Castiel kept on his usual expression, looking out the window. "Another town?"

"Yeah, stopping for supplies like usual. Come on." Dean took his hands off the wheel and picked up his gun. He had a knife too but it was already on him, though Castiel wasn't quite sure where. He opened up the car door and got out, closing it behind him. Once Castiel was out he spoke. "Remember to stay close to me."

Dean always told him that. He wasn't as experienced as Dean. He wasn't very clear on the mans past, they only met each other three months ago and that was in the sanctuary, their old safe haven that turned out not to be so safe but it seemed like Dean's past was filled with shooting and fighting. He was good at it. Hell, he was better then good.

Castiel was sure if anyone could survive it would be him.

"I know." Castiel replied, holding his shot gun tightly in his hand. He followed the man he barely knew into a store. The store didn't have much aside from a few bottles, candy bars and things people didn't need to take as they wouldn't help for survival.

They both got what they needed from the small broken down store. Castiel walked to the other side of the shelves to see what was there, nothing but useless things nobody needed here. Pet collars, straws, broken pencils and picture frames.
