Prologue - So we meet again (2)

Just when they were halfway the grounds of the university, a small red car passed the two girls. Emmy jumped on her scooter and gestured Leia to do the same. While they raced back to the road, Emmy shouted something at Leia. 'We are going to try to stop that car. Don't get scared with what is going to happen next.' Leia only nodded, resulting in Emmy driving up the speed, and her grabbing Emmy out of surprise. They approached the red car, and Emmy quickly managed to overtake it. The moment they were riding next to it, Leia could see a man in a brown suit sitting in the car. Emmy suddenly drove up the speed just a little more, so that she would end up in front of the car. The moment the man seemed to realize this, and that Emmy was braking, he was able to stop just in time. He quickly got out of the car. 'See here!' he shouts indignantly. 'What was that about?' Emmy only smiles at the man. 'Nice to see you again... Professor Layton.'

'And... you are?' Professor Layton has accepted Emmy's request of letting the two girls into his car. While Leia was completely amazed by the fact she was sitting in some kind of vehicle that goes way faster than walking, Emmy started a conversation with the professor she was sitting next to. 'Why, didn't Dean Delmona tell you?' 'Tell me what?' 'I'm Emmy Altava, your new assistant! Call me Emmy!' It was silent for a moment, the professor having to let that information sink into him. 'I'm sorry, you're my...?' 'Assistant! You do know what an assistant is, don't you?' Emmy giggles. 'Of course. I'm sorry, Miss Altava, but...' 'Professor, please... Emmy! And stop apologizing so much!'

'All right, Emmy. So sorry, but it seems that there has been some sort of mistake here.' Emmy's expression changed to a more serious one. 'Oh, I don't think so, Professor! Dean Delmona hired me himself! It seems that you have been too busy to attend you departmental meetings lately. Is that right?' 'Well...' the professor thought about how to react to that. 'I suppose there might be some truth to that. However--' but Emmy interrupts. 'Sounds to me like if anyone needs and assistant, it's you! So, from now on, I'll be the backup on all your projects! Got it? Great! I can't wait to get started!'

With that being settled, Emmy leaned out of the window, enjoying the warm breeze blowing outside. She wasn't too surprised the professor didn't remember her. It had been some time since their first meeting, after all. And he clearly had a lot on his mind, which was exactly why he needed an assistant like her! It was her first day on the job, and she was ready for anything... or so she thought. The strange girl wasn't the only mysterious person they would encounter, as they still had yet to meet the young boy who would help them unravel the strangest mystery one could've ever imagined.
