"Good mornin' lil brother." I heard someone say behind me, with a very redneck accent, breaking eye contact with Carl.
"Oh, who we got here eh?" the redneck said as I turned around to see a man with only one hand standing against the doorway of the cell block.
"Didn't think you took people in Rick." the man said to Rick but while he was still looking at me.
"She needed our help, and plus it's not safe out there with a baby." Rick said very stern to the one handed man.
"Oh, she got a baby? So you gon' let a girl who gets around into the group?" the man said. My face turned from happiness to complete anger. I never felt this angry before. I just wanted to get up and punch him in his stupid face.
"shut it, Merle." Daryl said coming to my defense. I shot an evil glare at him, wanting him to see me.
"Come on Skylar, I'll show you to the showers." Maggie said to me. Carol came over as I handed Lacy to her.
"Here, here are some clothes for you." Maggie said handing over a red, black, and white flannel shirt, with black skinny jeans and a new bra and a pair of underwear. She also handed me some deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a razor to shave with.
"Thank you, for these, and also for getting me out of there." I said to Maggie as we walked towards the showers.
"No problem. Merle is a jerk. The only reason he is here is because Daryl and him are brothers." she said as we entered the restroom.
We walked into the shower room. Running water was something I thought I'd never see again. I walked over to a shower, Dove Shampoo, Conditioner, and body wash sat on the little bench that was inside the shower. I walked over to the towel rack, grabbing a blue fuzy towel, and a white wash rag.
"I'll be outside on watch in case you need me, feel free to take as long as you need sweetie." Maggie said to me.
"I don't remember the last time I took a shower." I said letting out a quiet laugh as Maggie left the shower room.
I took one glance in the mirror.
This. Is. Not. Skylar. I said as I looked at my face caked with dirt. Bruises on my arms and legs. Splatters of walker blood were on my face, and was caked under my fingernails. This is not me.
My long brown and blonde ombred hair was in knots, twigs and leaves accompanied the knots.
The old Skylar was weak.
I quickly took off my clothes and turned on the cold water. Not hot water but hey, it was running water.
I jumped in the shower. Immediately I watched as the dirt rolled off my body onto the floor of the shower.
I scrubbed my head, getting all the dirt, leaves, twigs, and knots out of my hair.
Then I took the white rag and put the cream colored soap on it and began to scrub my body. After I got through, the white rag was no longer white. It was brown.
This is the first shower I've taken since the outbreak started.
I stepped out of the shower and quickly stepped out of the shower wrapping the towel around my body.
I passed by a mirror stopped to look at my now clean body.
I'm a new person now.
But this long hair has to go. I turned to my dad's knife, taking it out of it's holster.
I grabbed a section chopping it off with the knife, then another section until my hair was just above my shoulder blades.
I looked at the pile of clothes and put them on, feeling a million times better. I grabbed my belt putting on my gun and knife holster. I laced up my combat boots, and towel dried my hair. I began to brush my teeth. Then I brushed my teeth for I don't even know how long.
I finally walked out of the shower room, and walked back into the cell block.
"Hey Skylar, I hope you don't mind but I gave Lacy a bath." Beth said to me.
"That's fine, thank you" I said smiling to her as she handed Lacy to me. She was wearing a green onesie with white polka-dots on it. She looked,up at me smiling and giggling as I smiled at her. "Hey beautiful." I said looking at her.
"She looks just like you." Beth said to me smiling.
"You think so?" I said to Beth.
"Yeah." She said to me as she fed Judith.
"Thank you. I was hoping that she wouldn't look like her father." I said to her walking off. Into the cafeteria area. There was a bunch of guns on the four tables.
Then I saw it.
I saw a recurved bow and a quiver full of arrows. I immeditaly started smiling and looked at Glenn.
"Is anyone going to be using that?" I asked him pointing to the bow and arrow.
"No, but if you can shoot it you can have it." Glenn said to me.
"Carol do you mind holding Lacy while I go shoot?" I said to her, dying to shoot the beautiful recurved bow.
She walked over and picked her up smiling sweetly. I then walked over to the table and grabbed to forearm guard which was grey leather and slipped it on. Then throwing the quiver across my body and picked up the bow.
"You look really excited." Carl said to me.
"I haven't shot a bow since mine was stolen from me." I said to him smiling at the bow.
"Do y'all have any paper, and a pen?" I asked. Then Beth walked over and handed both the items to me. I drew a target on the paper then walked outside and sat the target up on the table. Sounds of walkers filled my ears as they pushed up against the fence. I walked as far away as I possible could from the target without getting to close to the fences.
I grabbed an arrow from my quiver and loaded my bow. I drew back and positioned my hand on the corner of my mouth, took a deep breath and realesed. I walked over to see the bullseye covered by the arrowhead.
"You're good." Carl said to me.
"Thanks, learned from my uncle." I said looking up at him in the catwalk. ( I think that's what they called it )
"When did you cut your hair?" he said to me as I put my arrow back in the quiver.
"When I took a shower, I probably looked really different. Hopefully I smell better." I said letting out a quiet laugh and so did he.
"Well you look like a new person but not in a bad way." Carl said as he smiled at me, placing a box of ammo on the ground.
"Well, I feel like a new person." I said smiling back at him.
