The Night Before Eid

The night before Eid,

And everyone was fast asleep,

No doubt exhausted from the anticipation,

Of the day following it.

After a month of fasting,

Some praying, some crying,

Comes the day of days,

That spreads happiness,

Even on a miserable summer’s day like this.

Beneath the sparkly sky,

Under the crescent moon that happily smiles,

I sat there in my room surrounded by concrete layers,

Slaving away in wisdom pain, trying to write a poem that conveys,

The jubilee of Eid to all it says.

Now I maybe unsuccessful, I may even be wrong,

But the message this poem holds is absolutely not,

So share the joy of Eid with others,

Enjoy the feasts, celebrate life,

Forget animosity, forget all hate,

For they are vanished forthwith throughout the day.

Eid Mubarak, Eid Mubarak,

I say that to you,

For you all are Allah’s blessed few.
