Prologue
Do you ever get that feeling where no one will love you back or everyone hates you? Well that's how I feel everyday. I wasn't always like this, I became like this the day my parents were announced dead by some freak car accident when I was thirteen. Yet, I got better all because of my older brother, Josh, that was until he joined the army to go fight in Iraq when I was sixteen, and when he was eighteen. It's been exactly one year since he left for war. Everyday I think about him, wondering if he will ever come back home.
People say I'm anti social, but I'm really not I just have no friends so I appear that way. Everyone told me it was my fault my parents died, or I should just kill my self, so I began to cut. I was sent to the hospital five times in one year before, four of those times for cutting myself too deep, and once for popping pills. Now I have to see a councillor every Wednesday for depression, to tell a complete stranger my feelings, aw hell naw. I don't tell her the truth, but she sees through all my lies, I know she is a councillor and all, but I have been told I am very convincing.
"How's your seventeenth birthday going, Jilly?" My councillor asks, bringing me out of my thoughts.
I scowl at her and answer, "For the thousandth time, my name is Jillian. Not Jill, Jilly and defiantly not Jilly bean." I roll my light blue eyes when she sighs.
"How is you seventeenth birthday, Jillian?" Carrie Teasdale, my councillor asks.
I sigh and answer truthfully, "Terribly, it has been exactly one year since my brother left for Iraq, and the four year anniversary of my parents death."
"Did anything good happen today, any new friends?"
"I dyed my hair blue." I say.
Carrie laughs, "Can you give me a little twirl?"
I stand up and twirl around making my light blue hair flying into my face. I fix my hair and sit back down on the crème color chair. I smile slightly, showing off my dimples, making Carrie's face light up.
"You have dimples, sweets!" There is a soft nock on the door to her office. "Come in! Jillian, I have someone I want you to meet." I nod my head slowly and turn around to see a girl with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Hi, I'm Lou Teasdale and this is- Oh Lux, come on, you can't hide behind my legs forever, sweet heart!"
"Yes I can mummy."
Lou turns around and picks up a little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes just like her.
"Like I was saying, I'm Lou, Carrie's older sister, and this is Lux." Lou smiles sweetly at me.
Carrie looks at me expectantly, "I'm Jillian Harper."
"Nice to meet you! Lux go say hi!" Before I can reply a pair of little arms wrap around my waist. I look down at Lux and she smiles at me, showing off a few teeth. I slightly smile back at her and she says, "Hi, I'm Lux, I'm one!" She holds up one of her little chubby fingers.
"I'm Jillian, I'm seventeen." I say.
"Today's her birthday!" Carrie says happily.
Lux looks back up at me, "Today's your birfday?"
"Yeah, when's your birthday, cutie?"
"I don't know Lil, mummy when's my birfday?"
"September seventh." Lou says sweetly.
"Did you hear her, Lil?" I smile at her new nickname for me and nod yes.
"Ok! Your pwetty, I want blue hair too!" Lux says playing with the ends of my hair.
"Jillian, why don't you take Lux to get some snacks from the snack table in the lobby." I nod my head slowly, giving Carrie a confused look before walking out the office.
Lou's POV
"So why did you want me here?" I ask taking a seat on the now empty crème color couch.
"I want her to meet the boys." Carrie says, tapping her manicured nails on the dark brown desk.
"Why?"
"She needs someone in her life other than me, and now you and Lux."
"What do you mean Doesn't she have family or friends?"
Carrie sighs before answering, "Her brother is off in Iraq, and she has no friends. Everyone thinks it's her fault her parents died in a freak car accident when she was thirteen."
"Oh my gosh, well the boys are free right now." I say. I can't believe she went through that! That poor girl!
"Alright, but make sure Lux is with her."
"Ok, but why?"
"Jillian likes familiarity." Well ok then.
"Should we do it here, at the boys flat or her house?" I ask taking out my iPhone5.
"At there house. Oh and don't tell them her past ok? She will tell them on her own terms. Oh and one more thing, she will smile a lot when she meets new people, but the smile is fake."
"How do you know?" I am so confused about all this.
"She has dimples. Now go find her and take her to the boys. When she walks into the house, make sure Lux is in her arms or is holding her hand. Please don't think badly of Jillian, she really is a sweet girl." Carrie smiles sweetly and gives me a tight hug.
I say goodbye and go find Jillian and Lux. Jillian really does seem like a sweet girl, I hope the boys will like her.
"Ok, we're here!" I say enthusiastically. I turn around and see Lux playing with the ends of Jillian's light blue hair. This makes me smile because Lux only plays with Harry's hair. I get out of the car and take Lux out of her car seat. Jillian follows behind Lux and I until I stop walking and let go of Lux's hand.
"Ok Lux, can Lil carry you inside?" I bend down to her height.
"Yes mummy!" She says happily. Jillian looks confused but she picks her up anyway, and Lux immediately starts to play with Lil's hair. I open the door to the flat, and say, "Boys! It's Lou, Lux and a special guest!" The five boys all come running out and they look behind me. I do the same and see Lux talking to Jillian, I smile at them and turn back to the boys.
"Guys this is Jillian! And I have to go I'll be back later to get Jillian and Lux." I kiss Lux's head and hand the guys a bag full of her stuff, and wave bye to the boys, I walk out the door and go to my car. I hope they like her, she really needs someone in her life...
