Hearing the sound of my alarm clock made me groaned. I guessed this is the start of a new school year. As I listened to the pan frying in the background, my stomach growled. As I slowly stumbled out of bed, I heard my mum scream, "Hurry up, you're going to be late on your first day of high school, Shayla". I quickly rushed out of bed to put my uniform on.
Walked down the stairs as I remembered what had happened last night. I sat in my seat staring at the ground, wondering if that Hayden boy had texted me again. "Earth to Shayla, your eggs are going to get cold if you keep staring off into the sunset." my mum stated with a "if you don't hurry I'm leaving without you" tone. I quickly gobble down my breakfast and rush to fix myself up. After a few minutes I'm out of my house door and in my mum's car, driving through the streets of Sydney.
WEST BROOK GRAMMAR SCHOOL, I read as my mum drove in to the pick up and drop off zone. I look at all the girls and boys. Shirts are untucked. Ties are pulled down low. Shoes are untied and people are loudly chatting with portable speakers in their hands or ear phones in their ears. I have been dreaming to go to this school every since I was younger, and it does look completely different from the pictures and especially the website. As I hopped out of the car, I spotted Jessica and Vanessa. Both of them had been enrolled without any test needed to be taken as Jessica's older sister and Vanessa's older brother had been studying at the school, and no they're older siblings aren't dating. That's one of the perks of having siblings, as for me, I'm just an only child.
"What's with that look on your face, you seem slightly depressed this morning" Jessica commented as she studied my face. Well, I thought, maybe because of the fact that I didn't want them to mention that my birthday was next week or the fact that school started. That's when Vanessa fulfilled both of my thoughts. "OMG, SHAYLA, IT'S YOUR 13th BIRTHDAY NEXT WEEK!!! THAT'S WHY SHE IS ALLLLLL SADDDDDDDDDD" Vanessa shouted. "You don't say" I responded. My birthday... Probably the worst time of the year due to the fact that the girls go OVERBOARD. Not my parents, my friends. February the 3rd. I shook my head, I knew that Jessica wants to throw a huge party. My parents only allowed these "parties", was because Jessica makes a lame excuse at to why we should go to her holiday house but secretly we're having a huge party. February 3rd is Jessica's way of "getting away". Before I could list the reasons as to why they shouldn't throw me a party, the bell rings.
Walking down the corridors, you see people rushing past you so that they can get to their classes on time. As I walk into class, I examine everyone's faces. Half excited and half just wanting to get the day over with. I sit down, and open my bag. While getting my stationary and books, my phone rings. I quickly grab it and answer. "Hello? Who is this?" I quietly whispered. "Ayeeee, it's Dy- I mean Hayden..." a confused voice replied. "I honestly think you have the wro-", my math teacher came up to me and leaned on my desk. "Miss Jones, what do you think you are doing on the phone during my class?" my teacher asked rhetorically. I slid down my chair not wanting to answer. I'm so dead.
