I went downstairs after having a bath, which was actually very hard as the water was freezing cold. I slid down the banister, and okay, I kinda fell off clumsily at the end. But let's forget that.
Mom was at the counter preparing some breakfast. My mom is practically the best mom ever. She has a job as editor in the local magazine but it does not pay much. Like we can manage my school and books expenses, food, nice clothing and the house but not anymore luxuries than that. And moms like always so cheery and happy and positive. My dad had passed away when I was two so I can barely remember him. The only thing that I know about him was that he was a music maniac, and mom told me that.
I ate my breakfast which was pancakes, kissed mom on the cheek and headed out the door while swinging my bag on my shoulder. I always walk to school. Most people come by bus or by car but I like to walk as we don't have a car and the kids in the bus always drop gum on your head or on the seat in which you will be sitting.
The school day was, well, uneventful. I have got two friends, Kevin and Stuart. They are amazing and when I am getting beaten up by bullies or something, they are always with me. Not saving me, but next to me getting beaten up too.
I dozed off during the math class as usual and was smacked on the head my the teachers fat book and then made to stand outside class.
I was heading home when it happened. A beggar woman suddenly stood in front of me blocking my way. But she wasn't asking for money or something. She just stared at me with those black eyes, dripping with what seemed like lack of food and hunger. I strayed a little far from her and continued walking. Suddenly a hand grabbed at my bag and made me turn towards them. It was the beggar woman. But now her eyes were, believe it or not, golden, and also shining. Then she started speaking, with a voice lined with extreme power,
"It will start today. I will turn your life into hell. Don't try to escape me as I will take hold of you even if you are in the depth of Tartarus. Beware, hero."
Then she vanished.
