SIX MONTHS LATER

"Mmm" Kim purred as Adam kissed a trail down her neck, "what a lovely way to wake up" she whispered against his mouth as he moved to her lips, his hand on her protruding belly, "what time is it?" She asked.

Adam laughed, "Seriously? You're asking for the time, I must be slipping" he ran his hand across her belly, "how's the littlest Ruzek this morning?"

"Active, as always" she sat up, "We need to get moving, I have a doctors appointment, finally gonna learn if it's a boy or a girl" she wouldn't admit it but she was hoping for a girl. Their house had far too much testosterone and the last thing it needed was another boy to added to the mix.

"It's a boy" Adam said confidently.

"You know this how?" Her eyebrow raised in suspicion.

"Just know. Trust me, I'm right" he got up and headed for the shower, "the universe knows I can only handle one daughter"

"Adam Ruzek! To the principal's office, NOW!" She was furious with him, she wasn't sure what had happened to him, but she would not tolerate his misbehavior in her classroom.

Adam grabbed his books and took the referral from her and pushed the door open, "Fuck you" he shouted as he left, tossing his books down the hallway, "fuck this shit" he yelled as he exited the school.

Fuck it all.

He'd learned more than he had bargained for when he discovered that Jeremiah Miller was his father and Adam Ruzek was not.

He hated everything, being in his own skin made him sick to his stomach.

His mother too preoccupied with the next fucking brat that she was clueless to his discovery. Not that he had mentioned it, but it was clear to anyone with eyes that he was in a free fall and neither one of his 'parents' had even batted an eye.

He'd quit volunteering in the hospital, he didn't want to be around those kids anymore not when he couldn't trust himself.

It had been weeks since he last saw Tara, they had an epic blowout and she refused to speak to him, and if he was honest with himself it was exactly what he wanted. He couldn't let her get hurt and being with him would only end in heartbreak for her.

It was in his DNA after all.

He was the son of a serial rapist and a murderer, he was trash.

He wanted to stop feeling, he wanted to be numb. He sent the text to his dealer and rode his bike to the rendezvous spot.

His habit was quickly draining his funds, he was able to grab sixty bucks from his 'father's' wallet this morning, but he wasn't sure how long he'd be able to get away with it.

Sure the guy was pretty clueless but sooner or later he'd start noticing that his wallet was significantly lighter.

He skidded to a stop and headed up the flight of stairs and knocked lightly, following the pattern of the knock, the door opened slowly, "Cash?"

Adam pulled the twenties from his back pocket, "here's sixty" he handed it over and took the little bag containing four little pink pills. He wasn't even sure what this shit was but damn if it didn't help him forget.

"Thanks" Adam huffed as he popped one in his mouth and forced it down with a gulp, cancer would do that to you. He could swallow even the biggest of pills without the assistance of a drink.

"I'm telling you it's a boy" Adam laughed as they waited for the doctor to return, "Have you thought about names?"

Kim huffed, "No, we always have such a hard time picking one that I didn't want to even think about them until we knew what it is" she explained.
