"Do you give up yet?" Ryan asked, staring down at me. We were fighting each other in the privacy of our 'secret training grounds'. He had me pinned against the wall, my hands in one of his and above my head, and a knife at my throat.
I laughed. "Never." I kicked him in the stomach, causing him to let go of me and drop the knife. Quickly, I moved away from the wall and grabbed the knife. Before he could process what was happening, I tripped him and had the knife at his neck with him on his stomache, straddling him so he couldn't move. "Now, do you give up?" I asked, amused.
He grunted. "I can't believe this is happening again." he muttered.
I started running the knife over his neck. "Oh, really now. Well, are you going to surrender or not. I'm okay with the latter. I mean, you are in the perfect position to do so." I say, sarcastically, placing the knife in the middle of his neck and putting a little more force on it.
He glares at me. "You wouldn't dare."
I push on the knife harder, causing him to bleed a little and lean down, "Try me." I whisper.
He gulps loudly, his eyes widening in horror. "Fine! I surrender! Jeese woman!" I laughed and get off him while he tries to get up. "Women, you have some serious problems!"
That just causes me to laugh even harder. "I can't believe you even thought I would actually kill you!" I say between gasps.
"It was pretty convincing that you would at the time." he mutters under his breath.
I sighed. "It'll be late soon. Let's call it a day."
Now let me rewind a little. My name is Ashley Rainwater. I'm a Senior in Sypheret High. With my waist-length, coppery-brown hair, chocolate-brown eyes, and tan skin, I'm pretty normal looking. I stand at 5'7" and have a slender body with curves in just the right places. I have soft features yet I pack a mean punch. I'm actually not your normal type of girl here. I am into fighting and sports and hate frills, dresses, skirts, the color pink, ect. Yep, I'm a tomboi and I love it. I have a fire cracker attitude too, you know, the 'you mess with me and I'll mess you up' one. I'm also very sarcastic and like to joke around a lot. Usually, I wear just a normal pair of pants and t-shirt with a sweater over it. With my hair tyde and my favorite skull-graphic converses, I'm ready for pretty much anything and never give up easily. I'm always having fun and don't care what people think about me.
If you haven't noticed, Ryan Fox is my best friend and has been for as long as I can remember. He is about 6'1" with slightly tanned skin, piercing, emerald-green eyes, and brown-tousled hair. He has strong features yet is always laughing. Usually he wears a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. This is of course, when he's not wearing his armour. Yes, as you might have guessed, Ryan is in fact a warrior, for the king might I add. This is one of the few things I hate about him. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy for him, especially since he works for the king, but he's constantly teasing me about this. You might be thinking, 'How come he's a warrior when you're stronger than him' Well, the answer is simple,
'Girls aren't allowed to become warriors, under any circumstances!'
This is why me and Ryan have a 'secret training grounds', so we can practice without anyone knowing about what were doing. Me and Ryan have had a 'secret training grounds' since we were six and found this area. 'The grounds' for short, it is our favorite place to go. We've engraved all of our memories on the trees around the area and always come here when something special happens, not including when we train. It's the place with all of our memories.

As we leave 'the grounds' and head to the main area in town, I see a note tacked to the board that catches my eyes. "Ryan, I'm going to go check something. I'll be right back."
When I reach the message board, I see that the note came from the king his self. On the note it reads:
'Any man who would like to become a warrior, come to the castle this Saturday afternoon. There, I will see to it that one person will become a warrior. To be chosen, you will have to show your skills and battle against everyone else to be victorious.
Also, I would like all my warriors to attend too because I will be making a very important announcement once the competition is over. I wish everyone who tries good luck, and to come prepared.
May anyone who tries, my best wishes.'
I read the note again and again, shocked. They have never done something like this before. Ryan comes behind me and reads the note too.
"Wow. I don't think they've done this yet."
"Yeah." I agreed. And suddenly, it hits me.
"Oh, no. I know that look." He says, alarmed. "You just got an idea, didn't you?"
