The day I met Christian was also the day I turned 18. It was fairly cold outside, considering it was in January, but I didn't care. I liked sitting around the forest whenever I felt like it, and I felt like lying down on top of two inches of snow on that day.
I made two rows of snowballs just to throw them into the trunks of trees. Then, as I was throwing some into the forest, I heard someone yelp out, "Ow!" That's where Christian comes in. He trudged over to where I was sitting and asked me something. I was too struck by his looks that I didn't even hear what he said, but I saw his lips move to form the shape of the word, "Why?"
"Why what?" I asked stupidly. I was too lost in his eyes to even think anything other than: Damn, look at those eyes. He looked down at me for a moment, then softly smiled at me.
"You threw a snowball at me," he said. Oh yeah. I quickly stood up from the cold ground and tried in vain to brush the snow off from my behind and back of my legs.
"Oh, yeah. I'm stupid. I'm sorry about that," I said. He smiled at me again and shrugged.
"It's fine. I like getting snowballs thrown at me." And that's how we got into a massive snowball war. We ran through the forest, just the two of us, quickly building forts and hiding while the other searched for us with a snowball in their hands. We laughed so hard that the air was filled with our laughter more than the snow that was falling.
We stayed together in the forest until late in the evening, and almost every day after that, we met in the forest and hung out with each other for a while. We actually had a name for ourselves that made us laugh nearly every time we thought of it.
Forest Friends.
We didn't know why it was so funny to us, but it was. And that's how Christian and I became best friend and how him and I became Forest Friends.
