Thomas P.O.V
I've been in the maze for a month. Today a new greenie comes up, but I'll be stuck running, running until the walls are about to close, running til I can't breathe. Minho and I had just started running right after the greenie alarm went off. We had just turned the corner when the shouts and hollers started.
Minho and I looked at each other and nodded. At that we turned around and ran back. As soon as we left the maze, Newt was running towards us shouting something. "What did he just say?" I asked turning to Minho. I was suprised to see his face full of shock and disbelief. He whispered something and I told him to speak up. "It's a shucking girl..." He whispered just loud enough for me to hear.
I started running towards the box, faster and faster with every step. Something is wrong, he could just feel it. Number one, there has NEVER been a girl in the maze, something is wrong. He stopped on the outside of the box and stared, the girl was unconscious. Newt caught up with him and jumped in, and poked the girl. He bent down slowly and checked for breathing. He announced she was breathing evenly, but she was in a comatose state. He got the med-jacks to come over and as soon as they tried to pick her up, her eyes opened.
She gasped and scrambled out of their grasp and pulled out a knife and pointed it at them. "Get away from me and let me just walk away. Now." She said calmly and firmly. We all moved aside and she got out and went toward the homestead, right up to the top. Gally and Newt tried to get her down but she just threw things, metal, food, weapons. Of course Minho had to come up with a great idea, "HEY!Why don't we let Thomas go up?" He yelled. Everybody looked at me and I suddenly felt very anxious to get up there. I started the climb up and told her it was Thomas. We talked for awhile and I found out her name is Teresa. "This was in my pocket when I came up, what do you think it means?" She asked handing me a note. I opened it up and saw this scrawled down, She's the last one. Ever., I thought that was it, but then she said there was more on the back. No more after this, I apologize, resources are growing slim. Remember this Thomas, W.I.C.K.E.D is good, no matter what anyone says, it is good not evil, we want to help. Thomas don't tell anyone about this side of the note, only the front. You and Teresa will be the only ones who know. You will start getting your memories back. You're special, remember this. I inhaled shakily and looked up at Teresa, I had so many questions I wanted, needed, to ask but I couldn't. Not now, the other Gladers were waiting. "Hey um, the other guys are nice, you can trust me. I'll stay by your side but I go out in the day because I'm a Runner but I'm sure Chuck would like to keep you company. Why don't you come down?" I asked as nicely as possible. She just looked at me for a few minutes, obviously thinking, when finally she nodded. I helped her down the tall ladder and the Gladers kept their space, watching from a distance. She looked around carefully and everything was silent, the wind rustling the trees. Time seemed to stop in that moment, everybody observing, watching, silently. No one knew what to do, it was the first girl in the maze, no one remembered anything. The note. I suddenly remembered, the note said I should start getting my memories back, I don't know when but to figure things out it better be soon. Things were about to change, big time. There was a new tension in the air, it was obvious that nothing would ever be the same. The silence was suddenly broke with screeching in the distance. "What is that?" Teresa asked quietly. "Greivers." I said grimly. All the Runners ran out of the maze at once, yelling for help. Minho and I spotted each other and nodded, running towards them. We ran and ran, I forget how big the Glade is. We ran faster with each step, more precise, focused. We ran to the weapons shed and gathered all the Runners. We didn't know if the Greivers would come inside, but there was no telling with everything changing. We ran to the West entrance, weapons raised, heavy breathing. We were ready to fight, and we weren't going to stop until every Greiver was dead and the Gladers were safe, completely safe. Especially with Teresa, I don't remember anything, but I know I have a connection with her, I just don't know what yet. That's when I heard it. The voice in my head. Tom, it's me Teresa. What's going on? Is everything okay? Are YOU okay? I almost stopped running, what was going on? Did I know this girl before? If so, how? Why? What happened, were we dating or something? I've never been so confused. I tried to answer back, it didn't work. We got to the walls, I stopped, closed my eyes, and hoped she got my message. I'm fine, the Greivers won't step foot inside the Glade, we got this. I'm great, just a little shaken. If you have any memories or ANYTHING, tell me or write it down. We need to figure this thing out. Soon. With that I turned to the Greivers, they stayed in the maze but that didn't stop us. We charged, fast, hearts pounding, weapons high in the air, flying towards the Greivers. We fought and fought, the Greivers were soon gone. None of them died, but we made sure they left with injuries. A few million thoughts ran through my head at one time and I couldn't focus on anything. The Gladers ran towards us and the last thing I remember is Teresa and Newt asking if I was okay. Then, everything went black. Quiet, still, empty, lonely, nothing, blackness. I knew I was alive, I could feel it. But then I heard a voice. Her voice. In my head. Thomas are you okay? Tom? I focused with everything I had, I'm fine, I don't know what happened but I need to tell you something Teresa. I... I remember y-, that's all I couldget out before I lost control and felt nothing, absolutely nothing.
