As time goes on, the planets spin, and move around the sun.

A great empire, builds walls higher, it won't be overrun.

Workers lay the bricks of fire, stoic while they hum,

While they perspire, they are focused, careful to have fun.

The king's commands, they understand, demand the job be done.

We lay bricks for the king, we hum, we do not sing,

The king is wise, we are his eyes, we tell him everything.

This wall that must be built, protects from the outside,

This wall will never tilt, a symbol of our pride.

Their wordless song is heard with meaning, by those in the empire,

The highest walls of any nation, none would dare conspire.

But despite its height and all its might, and though it's never lost a fight,

Despite its light which flickers bright and though it knows it's always right,

Despite the walls, so tall and strong, the king, the workers, happy song,

This nation has a major flaw. And though the great walls will not fall,

And the workers will not stall, and though they're one, and one for all,

Time alone will kill them all.

We know that we will die, we know, that's why we cry,

The wall goes up, and further high, but we can always see the sky

We know that we will die.

And so they sing unto the king that he may hear their offering

And one request, which they addressed, was that he give blessing

The walls which keep you safe, will keep you in one place,

And though the height is great, it's limited in space.

There is no limit to the ways, in which you can succeed,

Build walls high, or build them wide, defense a nation needs.

The people listened to the king, to them, his words run thick,

The nation is contained in vain behind the walls of brick.
