What seemed to start out as just another boring year in the same old boring school, didn't. Of course everything strange in this town always involves me. I never intend for it to, but weird things just always have a way of finding me.
My name is Alexis, but everyone calls me Lexi. When I was just a little girl, my mom passed away during childbirth, my little sister survived, but mom didn't. My mom stayed alive long enough to hold Melody in her arms and smile, crying with joy, before her eyes fluttered shut and never opened again.
It took years before my dad would tell me how she really died. He always said she just went to sleep after Melody was born. I believed it till I was thirteen and I started to get bullied about her death. How is it that when you're so young, there's always some kid that knows your family secrets before you know them yourself? Then they all make fun of you, calling you dumb and a liar because what you knew was the sugar coated truth to protect you from how awful things can truly be in the world.
After mom died, and the bullying began, I spent most of my grade school days hiding in shadows, trying not to be noticed, I didn't have a single friend in the world until 7th grade when a boy named Jeremy moved here. Everyone made fun of his black curly hair and how pale his skin was. I showed him kindness and he became my first and only friend, he also became my protector after he showed everyone how amazing he was at football. The popular crowd tried to take him from me but, he never gave in, he's still my best friend.
Jeremy seems to be the only one that doesnt think im crazy when strange things happen. Now I wasn't the only one that had a parent die in some accident, but I was the only one in the entire school that had a birthmark shaped like star on my hip. Jeremy says it's cool, but even my sister doesn't have one, my dad doesn't either, he said he can't remember if my mom did or not. That was the first strange thing about me. The second was a pure white streak of hair I had mixed with my long brown hair. I tried to dye it once, it never worked somehow.
So I had a white streak of hair and a star birthmark, big whoop right? The weird things never stop there though. About a year after my mom's death, strange relatives started to move to town, they'd always find me somehow, dad doesn't know them, he says they must be from moms side. For example my aunt Margaret, when she came to town, everyone teased me because she looks like Morticia from the Addams family. She loves the color black and really only comes out at night, she says it's to keep her skin fair and beautiful.
When my uncle Jack came to town, he scared people because he's so tall and thin, he almost looks like a skeleton. Jeremy thinks he has a medical issue that doesn't allow him to gain weight, but everytime i'm around him, he smells kinda like smoke and candy, odd combination, and his dog just appears out of nowhere.
But aside from my odd family always moving in, and my odd yet somehow natural features, im normal. Or at least I think I am. Jeremy says i'm just paranoid, but if you could sense something bad was gonna happen and didn't have the power to stop it, wouldn't you be?
