It's been several days since the party at aunt Maggy's House. Everyday during school Jeremy protects me and we stay out of trouble. Whenever we see Courtney and her goons coming, we find a teacher and start talking to them. Everyday after school Jeremy, Melody and I are at Margaret's house so I can practice magic.
I've been improving but I still don't know much. Aunt Margaret says it's gonna be hard for a while since i'm so stressed. So far I've learned only protection spells and a simple levitation spell. I hope I never need to use them.
After lessons today Jeremy sneaks up behind me and tickles me to cheer me up. I laugh and we fall to the floor smiling. He grins, "You should learn some kind of invisibility spell so we can hide from Courtney and her jocks." I smile and look at him. "Sadly, i'm still a few chapters away from those."
He grins and kisses me softly. We only break apart when Melody skips around us singing her silling kissing tree song again. We get up and I go and sit by the window and gaze out at the roses. "Hmmm I wonder...?" I whisper and I wave my hand over the window and a black rose picks itself and floats up to me, I take it and smile. Jeremy smiles behind me, almost stunned. "didn't you just learn that spell today?" I nod and put my finger over my lips to hush him.
He smiles and curls up beside me and he wraps his arms around my stomach. "So... How do they naturally grow black?" I smile, "Probably magic," I look at him and smile. "What should we do today?" He smiles. "Any mischief spells?" I laugh and think. "Hmmm, i'm not sure." I make the spellbook float over to me and I flip through the pages. I look at him and grin. "I think I may have found one we can use to our advantage."
He leans over and tries to read the spell. "What does it say?" I laugh. "it's a prank spell, and I know how we can use it." Jeremy grins and laughs. "On Courtney?" I nod and read the spell. "I can charm her locker to spit slime at her, I can fill her car with invisible whoopie cushions, or oooooh!" My eyes get wide. "I can make her see her worst fear chasing her, and no one else will see it, making her look like a complete fool." I look at Jeremy and smirk. "Which one sounds good to you?" He smirks. "All of them."
The next school day, before school I charm Courtney's locker so spit green slime on her and I hex her car to be filled with invisible whoopie cushions. All through the day her day gets worse and worse, her locker spits every time she opens it and I managed to get a whoopie cushion in every desk she sits in before every class.
I wait to use the last prank until the pep rally. Jeremy and I find a good seat and he holds me. I smirk, "ready for this?" He nods and I wave my fingers in the air slowly in a small arch as I look at Courtney. They begin their stupid cheers and in the middle of it Courtney screams and falls to her knees. I'm not quite sure what she was seeing in that moment, but it was enough to make her look ridiculous. Everyone stopped what they were doing and just stared at her. Courtney continued to tremble and cry out, Jeremy and I did our best not to laugh at how big a fool she looked. Leaning over I whispered to him, "mission accomplished."
Soon after we headed back home, Dad was at work and Melody was just getting off the bus. Running straight for me I saw her eyes were red and puffy. "Mel...? What happened?" I kneeled down and embraced her the second she reached me. She just shook her head crying, Jeremy was the one who spotted the bruises on her arms. The second I saw them, a fire grew in my belly and I wanted to cause serious pain to whoever touched my baby sister. Hurting me at school was one thing, but my sister, my sweet and kind baby sister, that crossed a line.
"Mel... Who did this to you?" She shook her head, I stroked my thumb over her cheeks to wipe the tears. "Mel... Please..." Finally she spoke up, "I don't know her name, she's not in my grade, but she called me a freak, her and her friends pushed me and hurt me sissy, they said im a freak just like you, and that's why mommy left!" She broke down into my arms and almost made me begin crying. "Mel, you know that isn't why mom left... You know your not a freak... Why didn't you tell an adult?" She sniffled, "I tried, none of them cared, they hurt me more on the bus and the driver didn't stop them sissy." I hold her close. "I'm gonna start taking you to school from now on, this has to end... If dad saw this, he'd be breaking things and suing parents..."
Melody and Jeremy nod, knowing our dad can't find out or hell will break loose. The one thing he notices about us, is if someone hurts us, that's why I always hid it from my dad, nothing he did stopped it though, only made it worse. I hold Melody close and take her inside, Jeremy makes an ice pack for her to put on her arms to help the bruising. "Where does it hurt?" She points to her tummy, back, arms and the back of her head. I kiss her forehead and go run a hot bath for her with special salt in it to soothe her pain.
Jeremy looks at me when I come back. "I don't suppose you have any healing spells?" I shake my head. "Too advanced for me still... But let's leave the magic out of this... We should get you home right?" He smirks and wraps his arms around me. "I'm not leaving, I gotta be the man here and take care of my two favorite girls in the world." I kiss his cheek and smile.
I get melody into the bath and per her request I add bubbles for her to play in. I leave her to relax and bathe and I head for the kitchen, thinking of ideas for dinner. Jeremy sneaks up behind me and holds my waist. I jump a little. "You know not to scare me." He giggles, "I know but its so much fun, so whatcha cooking babe?" I shrug and lean into his chest. "I'm not sure, I thought maybe spaghetti, or burgers, but I'm not sure what Mel wants." He smiles and kisses my neck, sending chills down my spine. "Jer..." I whisper softly and blush, he does it again and I giggle a little. "Come on, that's not fair, now I probably look like a cherry."
He laughs and picks me up, sitting me on the counter as he stands in front of me. I try to hide my face but he moves my hair and pulls my chin for a kiss. As his lips press to mine tenderly, my heart beat accelerates. It doesn't matter how many times we've kissed it never fails to excite me and feel like the first. I blush deeper red and wrap my arms around his neck and shoulders, kissing him. He must be trying to cheer me up, lucky for him its working.
I decide on cooking spaghetti for dinner, once Melody is done with her bath and is dressed, I let her stir the sauce while I make the garlic bread. Jeremy adds some of my seasonings in the sauce and Melody lights up with a smile when she stirs. She loves cooking with me and Jeremy. Its been a while since the last time. Her smile makes me feel warm. Like everything I do is appreciated. My sweet sister, making a mess.
Over dinner Jeremy uses the garlic breads crusts as vampire/walrus fangs. Making Melody laugh till she could pee. She runs around and he chases, making noises and holding his fingers up like claws. I laugh at them and Melody hides behind me. "Come on Mel, be brave, its only Jeremy." She laughs and runs up to him, yells 'Boo' and he falls to the floor pretending he's terrified of her. Its so precious how they act, like nothing in our world could ever go wrong.
